StockNissan
Hi all, I got a R33 GTST, when I start it up in the morning, there is like a tick tick noise. It comes from the right hand side of the car. When I accelerate it lightly it seems to go away. Once the car is warm and idle that tick noise dissapears. Any ideas? Demon Dave
it could be your injectors...? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/17627-start-up-tick-noise/#findComment-366046 Share on other sites
warrior_350
lol and i thought i was the only person with the stupid aircon noise on starting the car. Mine also makes that noise occasionally when i have it turned on and set to windscreen demist. StockNissan
Thanks guys, the noise comes from under the body... I thought at first something is not being lubricated well at start up. Althought it;s a hard noise to pinpoint. Once the car has warmed up well and travelled a bit it doesn't do it on idle...It seems the noise is only there once started cold in the morning.. Grrr.... red17
Umm when your car is cold all the oil is in the sump. It takes a few seconds on startup for the oil to get pumped into the top of the valvetrain, so it rattles and ticks. My old SR20DE used to sound awful for about 5 seconds, dont notice it as much on my Skyline. SLY33
yes as stated red17. r33's have hydraulic lifters (solids in GTRs) and if the oil pressure to a lifter is low (on startup) it clicks/ticks till the pressure builds up. Known as a sticky lifter. Dont know why it does it all the time on cold starts though, or if the lifter needs replacing? CMS Drifter
my 33 makes a clicking noise while driving. i think its the flasher unit, coz it goes away when the indicators are on. Any ideas???? ron
like SLY33 said. that should be where the sound comes from but for that stupid air con noise when starting upyour car, you can get around it by just pressing the MODE button on your climate control panel so it opens that stupid thing up all the time, hence no more noise. ie. put it to the 2nd position (head and feet) but when you change it to windscreen mode it will click again. worth a try ron Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/17627-start-up-tick-noise/#findComment-374963 Share on other sites
CMS Drifter
its not the a/c vents doing it. its definitely a tick sound, not the a/c vent sound. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/17627-start-up-tick-noise/#findComment-375632 Share on other sites
ron
CMS thats what i meant its inside. not the outer vents Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/17627-start-up-tick-noise/#findComment-375706 Share on other sites
CMS Drifter
its not related to climate control or air vents in any way. its a ticking noise that comes and goes. it goes away when i use my indicators. it sounds like the flasher relay ticking. ron
obviously you dont have this problem CMS. because this ticking is not electrical ie. relay contacts in anyway but it is like a lever that does not go into gear or just keep missing the teeth. loud ticks mate. ron Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/17627-start-up-tick-noise/#findComment-376767 Share on other sites
