Hi guys,

I own R33 Series 2 (12/97) and i noticed that its making a bit of noise, noise is not coming from the engine itself i think, when i press the clutch it stops, its sort of a whistling noise. Its not making any noise while i am taking off, and gear changing seems smooth, i bellive its not gear box. I am suspecting a clutch, or is it normal? ( i only had it for 3 months) car has done 97 000 so i am not too shore ...

Dose anyone know anything about it?

Any ides?

Thanks

that would be your thrust bearing champ, its the bearing that presses against the clutch pressure plate when you put your foot on the clutch. its either that or a bearing in your gearbox is on its way out.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply pal

it is most likely that bearing in the clutch, i wont tuch it for some time, apperently its not a big issue ... i'll c how i go ...

One more thing, Central door lock switch,do u lock 2 or 1 door when u press it???

One of the blokes installed the alarm the other day, and since then i only lock pasenger door when i press it, is it supposed to lock driver side ...???? or is it just me tripin that i was able to lock 2 at the time, i dont remember ... LOL

if i use the actual button on the driver side it looks everything, but i am just wondering about the actual switch

if you are saying what I think you are saying you have the same problem with me and my R32. If I arm the alarm it will only lock the passangers door not the drivers door. If I use the key in the drivers door it locks both passangers and drivers door. I am guessing maybe they wired the alarm up to a wire running to do passangers door which I dont think is a master in the central locking where it should be running to the drivers instead. Although that is just a theory.

  • 2 weeks later...

Mine shits me to tears. Its becoming so loud im almost tempted to do it. Problem is like posted, clutch should be done at the same time.. thats the bit my pocket cant fund at the moment!

Im interested to know why some make noises and some dont. I've read up on thrust bearings a little bit but havent had any success finding this kind of info.

Cheers

Really interested in the whole central locking thing,

i have a 95 r33 s2 and it only locks my drivers door when i push the button.

its not a huge probem but passengers have to lock their door when they get out or i have to lock in using my door buttons.

can this be fixed easily as everynow and then both doors will lock but very rarely. not sure if its an electrical problem or the gears in the door might be stufffed?

just wandering.

Hi,

Well i guess that reason y they become loud is just general weare n teare, no bearing will last 4ever, they dont like shocks, what happens when u drop the clutch ... the whole transmision suffers, n the clutch is the weakest link .... Some of them stress more some less, those who stress less will prob last longer ...

Its not much of a concern, i know its anoying but ... it dosent bother me that much, when the clutch is gone i will do it then ...

The central locking, man i have no idea, when u push the button u lock driver side only??? mine only locks pasengers side WDF??? i dont get it, but my central locking locks both, which is ok ...

Its not a big deal anyway, maybe its supposed 2 be that way ...

This is the only Skyline bit that i dont like, all day every day worry, whats this whays that, is it supposed to be that way, is someone gonna scratch it or steal it, or am i gonna get defected for this or that, i am becoming a skyline zombie

For the central locking thing - On a stock car, the passenger side has a relay and motor that locks/unlocks the door when the drivers lock is activated with the key. When a central locking remote is added, you need to add a motor to the drivers door as well, so it also can be activated electronically like the passenger door when you hit the remote.

I would assume that the motor wasn't put in drivers door or it has been wired up incorrectly, so it does the weird things you guys are mentioning!

    • The trigger kit I have is similar to the one in the link below. While going through Facebook, I saw someone else mention a similar issue, and I’m starting to think this could be related to the crank gear itself. I understand these parts are CNC machined, but maybe some earlier versions or individual pieces might have slight inconsistencies—it just doesn’t look right in my case. https://www.facebook.com/share/16an8evZd9/?mibextid=wwXIfr I originally installed the crank gear using the thin OEM washer, but as shown in the attached photo, the timing belt walks very close to the edge. When I tried using a Nitto washer—which is thicker—it actually made the issue worse. The belt walks about 1mm off the front edge, which raises more concern about alignment.   I’ve gone through the full process of elimination:   The tensioner pulley and bolt are brand new and installed correctly. The bolt isn’t bent and is oriented properly. The back of the tensioner and the idler pulley are clean and seated correctly. The idler sits slightly more forward, which I understand is due to its design. I’ve experimented with both tight and loose belt tension, but it makes no difference. As soon as the engine runs, the belt immediately walks forward again—even if I reset it beforehand.     At this point, I’m considering replacing the crank gear with your Race Version 1 (12-tooth), but before purchasing, I wanted to ask:   Are you aware of any alignment issues when using this gear? Would this gear help keep the belt aligned correctly, or could the walking still occur? Does it work with a standard missing-tooth crank and rear washer? Is there any specific crank setup or install procedure required?     For reference, I’m not using a front washer, as the PRP crank gear seems to replace the need for one.   Looking forward to your advice.
    • Yep, looks that way. Never driven an E30 or R31 so I can only imagine
    • Yuh, My new R34 box is sitting on the workshop floor (in its large shipping box, which is a nice thing on its own), along with a front plate to convert to push clutch. There was no way I was interested in rebuilding my existing one. Was only partly interested in the risk of buying a used one. But, if you want a 2nd hander, I can point you to one in/near Melbourne at least. @Komdotkom has one that should be in good enough condition to be usable. I don't think it's in a for sale thread, you'd have to message him. @redzedhas one that definitely needs a rebuild.
    • I used to love going to Amaroo to watch the HQ series go for broke (eventually stopped due to lack of spare parts) and also the Porsche series.  It was so cool to back your car up to nearly the edge of the viewing barrier and party with your friends, having a bbq and alcoholic/non drinks. It was such a family/mates atmosphere
