Ok we all know (especially if were still on p's) that the plastic little plate where forced to ware, not matter how well we drive, if it's on an import we pretty much fit the "random" category for RBT's just random pull overs in the middle of fricken nowhere for no fricken reason. Over time we have come to realize this is just how things are, in just, victimization, but none the less "normal."

Well once again NSW police and the RTA have joined forces in effort to raise revenue. Current P platers would have received a letter from the RTA about 2 months ago outlining the new changes. If your on your greens none applied apart from the one saying P plate must be clearly visible on the "exterior of the car" etc etc.

Well my g/f was just simply driving to work this morning where a cop followed her for about 3min before pulling her over. Before saying why he pulled her over, he got her to do a breath test, check the license and then continued around the car. After that "still with attitude of some, higher power" so you didn't bother to read your letter from the RTA, with the intention of just getting to work, doing the right thing and not there to play stupid games, she replyed "huh?" as most of us would, so continuing with eh attitude he spoke about incorrect p plates. This is 2 points btw and a hefty fine.

Now she's not one of these ppl that lay a p plate on the parcel tray, or has on of those ones stuck inside through tint you can't see, and it's deffiently not just a white and green strip hiding behind the number plate. This is a green MAGNETIC P plate thats about 20-30% larger then the standard RTA issue plastic one. He explained that it's wrong it's not RTA.... go firgure, it's bigger, more visable...

Anyway her thinking WTF and still never had any reason to believe our "finer RTA regulation enforcers" pick on P platers or import drivers in general, took in everything what he said politely still with him thinking he has a right to speak down to her like she's stupid. And explained that becuase of the way her back number plate in a bracket won't fit around it so his exact words where "and you'll have to drill through your number plate"

She was late for work, rang me up confused, saying i have to help her when she gets home to drill a hole through her number plate to hang a p plate from.

WTF mate =/

haha

Isnt it illegal to drill through the number plate?

Did she get done for "not displaying the number plates correctly"?

Have P plates (green P on a white background) displayed conspicuously at the front and rear exterior of the car when driving. The letter P on the plate must not be hidden. If towing a trailer, a P plate must be on the back of the trailer.

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/gettin..._p2.html?llid=3

This is what I would suggest: Goto the RTA ask them for as many P plates as they can give you. Maybe ask for say 50. If they question it, tell them your story. Say that I need that many because they always fall off or people steal them.

Then take about 25 of them, somehow make a bracket so that in the end you will have ~25 P plates all over the rear of the car and also ~25 plates on the front of the car.

Wonder if they'll pull her over now?

I saw a van get pulled over last week, he wasnt a p plater - i thought "yeah wow, a HWP pulling over someone who's not a p plater - dont see that every day" then about 4 hours later i saw another HWP pull over a newish model falcon (not an xr6/8 or anything, just family runaround) and i though "thats interesting, maybe they're not going for hoons/young guys/guys with nice cars as much anymore"

Wrong.

Spotted a HWP pulling over an S15 today in Sutherland

Thats what i thought would be the case....

"Have P plates (green P on a white background) displayed conspicuously at the front and rear exterior of the car when driving. The letter P on the plate must not be hidden. If towing a trailer, a P plate must be on the back of the trailer"

Thanks for that, see it says nothing about a bracket or next to the numberplate, like he said to her. It says clearly visable and the Green letter P on a white background. The magnetic plates have a much larger surface area

Did she get done for "not displaying the number plates correctly"?

He gave her a warning untill this afternoon, he said get a bracket for the front drill through the back or i'll book you this afternoon, he patrols our local suburb, and followed her for 5 minutes this morning from the house to half way to work.

Then take about 25 of them, somehow make a bracket so that in the end you will have ~25 P plates all over the rear of the car and also ~25 plates on the front of the car.
HAHAHAHH thats a great idea =) look better on a black skyline with some blue tack or somthing, just to see what they do :(
This is not a new thing , I got sick of getting pulled over when i was on my P`s so i took my P`s plates off , didn`t get pull over for about 18 months and by that time i was off my P`s
This is what they're promoting, it's doing more harm then good.

HAHAHA the van and the falcon where probably stolen :( lol

Mike yea Ive actually wanted to do that 11ty P plates on a car thing. But Im not on a P's so yea. Would love someone to do it and see what happens.

Post pics if you do. :)

Would look sick on the rear of a black 33 too. :( Quite nice PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP. Would look evern better if they are red Ps.!

Btw it's 2 demerits and $185 fine. For "incorrectly displaying P plates"

One of my local RTA's have a pile on teh end bench you don't even have to ask for, i took about 100 once for a joke. So i have a whole heap laying around :):D hahaha

I'm going to print out the RTA legislation of teh site and leave it in her glove box, so if he pulls her over again and questions her not "drilling" through the number plate, she can pull out the legislation and ask where she's breached it :(

I'll find time before i'm off my p's and do it with blue tack take come pickies around town and see what happens LOL

None of this is new really. They didn't have P's when I got my licence and I was always getting pulled over for no reason, "random" RBT or "licence checks"!?

One time I got pissed of and had a go back at the cop. I think if a car hadn't come around the corner at just the right time he was going to beat the shit out of me. Many months later the same cop was in the papers for doing all sorts of dodgy stuff.

At the same time I had a mate who was HWP and I used to whinge to him. He didn't care. He just said that there is a higher chance of young people doing the wrong thing so therefore there is a higher chance of them getting pulled over. I think old school coppers think they are putting the fear into you so you behave yourself but all they are really doing is putting the resentment into you so you hate them for life.

Last week on Saturday night I got pulled over 3 times in under 2 hours. Such a joke... and to think this was all in the Shire too :( and I NEVER use to get pulled over by anything. I find the cops aren't too bad around the area...

Completely sick of it. I think in about 2 years i had been pulled over max 5 times for "rbts" or whatever they wanna call them. I think I would of been pulled over a good 10 times in the last two months.

Thank god im off my p's in 4 weeks :)

Display of number-plates

Not sure how accurate or what the interpretation can mean. But yea

I believe its an offence to display a P plate sign minus the 90 or 100km/h limit sign on standard issue rta plates

I don't know about that. Is it?

Then that means all the people/shops who sell those "aftermarket" P's are distributing an illegal item?

Not only that the RTA website doesn't state this, i know the RTA now issues plate with the little 90 or 100 in a circle but what good is it. I don't see how it should (assuming it was) an offence, i mean a P plater know how fast they are aloud to travel, and so do the police that in force them. It's like having in the other corner of a red p, a circle with "no more then one passanger under the age of 25 after 10pm" or w/e applys to them now. I feel it's supid the little 90 or 100 inteh circle, and dought the use of a plain white plate "which is stated by the RTA website" an offence.

I've never been "harassed" (touch wood) by the cops. Maybe I've just been lucky...

Worst incident I've probably had was a HWP car tailgating me, pulling along side me & then speeding off.

I have a big magnetic plate on the back of my car as there's nowhere to fix the plate properly.

Mate I hear ya, I work at a nightclub and park my R33 out the front. The cops made a point of waiting for me to leave work so they could pull me over for a "random breath test" Furthermore I'd usually get pulled over on the way to work because I often start work at around midnight. Because of this I average around 9 RBTs a week :P I ended up asking one cop if I could use the tube that I got earlier in the night for the RBT and a second cop got pissed off because I pulled over for him before he could use his lights and sirens :O (yeh cos you're really conspicuous back there mate..)

Oh, and I'm on my full license for all of this..

endrant.

Keep a diary of when u get pulled over and where , they can`t wait for u to finish work this is harassment after u have a couple week worth of info maybe a few photo`s of the cops waiting for u , report the pricks , a diary is a legal document they cant argue with it if it kept up to date

How would the cops feel if u waited for them to finish work and then followed them home

    • I'll probably be putting the shit box back on the dyno again soon, I want to dial in the closed loop boost control properly. I'll have a camera facing the car/motor for fun too. Just note, there are essentially 3x 10AN inlets going into the catch can and 1x going back to the intake pipe. Most of the time the catch can "return" to the sump actually is the crank case breather, pushing air out.
    • I have the R3C with a Nismo slave and by no means does it behave like a stocker, it ain’t THAT bad. On take off just give a bit more throttle than you would say a coppermix and it’s fine. It will not slip though.
    • Okay. Final round of testing done. Got a friend to hook up a fancy scanner to the car and we also ran some compression and leakdown tests, she is healthy.  The MAF was definitely the culprit. So for future reference anyone with similar issues that find this thread. I suggest the following steps, in order of affordability:   Check your spark plugs for any fouling, replace plugs if they are bad or re adjust the gaps making it narrower (0.8mm would be good). Check every coil's resistance with a multimeter. It can be done by probing the IB and G pins on the coil pack. Resistance should be around 1.4 (+/- 0.1) Ohms Check the MAF. If you have Nissan connect or a good scanner with the 14 adapter it should allow you to see the voltage on the MAF reading should be around 1.1 - 1.2V when car is idling. But if you don't, buy a new MAF from Amazon and test, then return it. (For instance, I got a Chinese one for $40 that was reporting 1.3v on idle). If you still have scanner, you can run tests on the injectors to see if they are working, just remember to unplug the fuel pump fuse/relay and have no pressure on the line. Then listen for the noises that the injectors make. Clean/replace injectors as needed. Once you find the issue and fix, order thousands of dollars worth of OEM parts to refresh unrelated things (Optional)   PS: Thanks to the absolute legends of this forum for the responses and help to someone that went a bit over their head.
