OK have decided to get a plenum over the new turbo as budget is strapped.I am limited to 2G and that includes labour. I urgently need your help.

I will be ordering a Greddy plenum from nengun for $1100 prob on MOnday so I am URGENTLY chasing after as much info as possible before i order to make sure thisplenum is good for an r33 gtst!

What i need to know is EXACTLY what do i need to do if i get the greddy plenum? Do i need a new fuel rail? on 280 rwhp so might need anew fuel pump yeah but will the injectors be ok hitting close to 300rwhp? i hope so.

So besides changing the intercooler pipes around a bit what else do i have to do? is the XF throttle body ok to get done aswell at the same time? is the greddy plenum a nice HP increase? I REALLY Have to keep this below the $2000 mark!

Your opinions on this??

Ask Paul (gtst-vspec) about his. One word of advise from me is don't go any bigger in throttle body diameter than your stock one unless you plan on a 600+HP turbo.

Very good plenum the trust unit. As far as I'm aware the factory rail and injectors fit in.

peak power improvement isn't going to be awe inspiring on the factory turbo (maybe 5-10hp?). I mean that turbo isn't going to make 300hp at the motor with your car daniel given the kms the motor and turbo have already covered.

Engine response is improved for those with 'front mounts' and as such so is accelleration. Thats all I'd care about. then again are you trying to win a Dyno queen award with this car daniel?

Hills Motorsports down in NSW have a very nice custom plenum with properly tuned individual runners. They go for around $800. They rework the bottom half of the standard GTSt (R33) plenum and build a new top half. I am told that it performs brilliantly.

I had a friend who went from stock plenum to Greddy plenum and i remember he was disappointed because there was no major gain. I think he was running 20psi boost.

personally forget about the greddy plenum, the std plenum's design is very good and can support a decent amount of power.

i would save and do the turbo next - but it all depends on what your plans are for the car

in my opinion unless you are gunah run a rebuilt and strengthened motor at 4-500hp its not worth changing the plenum.

has anyone ever looked into placing on a gtr manifold onto the rb25??? we all know they can flow well and with multiple throttles would seem better for responsiveness...... i mean the only major drama would be to get someplace to make up an adapter plate for it to fit onto the head and once one has been made up it would seem quiet easy to make more up possibly even cheaper......i myself along with a more mechanically gifted friend are looking into doing this once after my rb30det goes in..........

Although there is a minor gain in throttle response with multiple throttle bodies, as they wear (the shaft bushing) or when they get out of alignment, they totally suck to re-align and I'd rather chew my own leg off than piss fart around with that.

25GTT, something to keep in mind about the Greddy and Sub-zero plenums - no provision for factory idle control. Only a problem if you want to keep the factory ecu or powerfc and want good cold start, normal idle and air conditioning compensation. Its pretty high up on my plenum check list. I think the Hills Motorsport plenum keeps factory idle control and its not a bad price, so its worth a check out.

I've found two types of XF throttle body's, the 65mm and 85mm (could be 90mm). Sydneykid has mentioned the standard RB25DET throttle body (at 65mm) is good for at least 400bhp, so I'd keep it on for good driveability with the standard turbo. Even if you're planning on big power, change the throttle body later rather than sooner.

Hi 25gtt if you can get the Greddy one for 1100 bux then i would go for it that is a good price.Just keep in mind you will need a new throttle body or maybe you could use the factory one but i dont know if it will fit.As for the sub zero plenum they work well they come with a new xf throttle body and top feed injector rail.When i fitted mine i decided to take off the factory idle controll and cold start valve because i had a real rough idle and noone could fix the problem now without all the factory gear on the new plenum the car idles 100% better it starts fine when its cold so im happy

you could buy the adapter plate for the stock throttle body for the greddy plenum..

I would get the Hills plenum if I didn't already have another (home-made) one. As already said, it has the ability to use the factory idle control. The biggest advantage to the front-facing plenums is better throttle response.

I wouldn't do it for outright power gains but if you can keep the total cost under a grand or so it would be worthwhile, because it makes the car feel better to drive as well as looking pretty neat in the engine bay.

Another (small) bonus is it makes your plugs and coilpacks much easier to get at.

    • The average previous owner for these cars were basically S-chassis owners in the US. Teenagers or teenager-adjacent. I often tell people that neglect is easier to fix than something that was actively "repaired" by previous owners.
    • Update 3: Hi all It's been a while. Quite a lot of things happened in the meantime, among other things the car is (almost) back together and ready to be started again. Things that I fixed or changed: Full turbo removal, fitting back the OEM turbo oil hardlines. Had to do quite a bit of research and parts shopping to get every last piece that I need and make it work with the GT2860 turbos, but it does work and is not hard to do. Proves that the previous owner(s) just did not want to. While I was there I set the preload for the wastegates to 0,9bar to hopefully make it easier for the tuner to hit the 370hp I need for the legal inspections that will follow later on. Boost can always go up if necessary. Fitted a AN10 line from the catch can to the intake hose to make the catchcan and hopefully the cam covers a slight vacuum to have less restrictive oil returns from the head and not have mud build up as harshly in the lines and catch can. Removed the entire front interior just shy of the dashboard itself to clean up some of the absolutely horrendous wiring, (hopefully) fix the bumpy tacho and put in LED bulbs while I was there. Also put in bulbs where there was none before, like the airbag one. I also used that chance to remove the LED rpm gauge on the steering column, which was also wired in absolute horror show fashion. Moved the 4in1 Prosport gauge from sitting in front of the OEM oil pressure gauge to the center console vents, I used a 3D printed vent piece to hold that gauge there. The HKB steering wheel boss was likely on incorrectly as I sometimes noticed the indicator reset being uneven for left vs. right. In the meantime also installed an airbag delete resistor, as one should. Installed Cube Speed premium short shifter. Feels pretty nice, hope it'll work great too when I actually get to drive. Also put on a fancy Dragon Ball shift knob, cause why not. My buddy was kind enough to weld the rust hole in the back, it was basically rusted through in the lowermost corner of the passenger side trunk area where the wheel arch, trunk panel and rear quarter all meet. Obviously there is still a lot of crustiness in various areas but as long as it's not rusted out I'll just treat and isolate the corrosion and pretend it's not there. Also had to put down a new ground wire for the rear subframe as the original one was BARELY there. Probably a bit controversial depending on who you ask about this... but I ended up just covering the crack in the side of the engine block, the one above the oil feed, with JB Weld. I used a generous amount and roughed up the whole area with a Dremel before, so I hope this will hold the coolant where it should be for the foreseeable future. Did a cam cover gasket job as the half moons were a bit leaky, and there too one could see the people who worked on this car before me were absolute tools. The same half moons were probably used like 3 times without even cleaning the old RTV off. Dremeled out the inside of the flange where the turbine housing mates onto the exhaust manifolds so the diameter matches, as the OEM exhaust manifolds are even narrower than the turbine housings as we all know. Even if this doesn't do much, I had them out anyways, so can't harm. Ideally one would port-match both the turbo and the manifold to the gasket size but I really didn't feel up to disassembling the turbine housings. Wrapped turbo outlet dumps in heat wrap band. Will do the frontpipe again as well as now the oil leak which promted me to tear apart half the engine in the first place is hopefully fixed. Fitted an ATI super damper to get rid of the worn old harmonic balancer. Surely one of the easiest and most worth to do mods. But torquing that ARP bolt to spec was a bitch without being able to lock the flywheel. Did some minor adjustments in the ECU tables to change some things I didn't like, like the launch control that was ALWAYS active. Treated rusty spots and surface corrosion on places I could get to and on many spots under the car, not pretty or ideal but good enough for now. Removed the N1 rear spats and the carbon surrounding for the tailpipe to put them back on with new adhesive as the old one was lifting in many spots, not pretty. Took out the passenger rear lamp housing... what do you know. Amateur work screwed me again here as they were glued in hard and removing it took a lot of force, so I broke one of the housing bolts off. And when removing the adhesive from the chassis the paint came right off too. Thankfully all the damaged area won't be visible later, but whoever did the very limited bodywork on this car needs to have their limbs chopped off piece by piece.   Quite a list if I do say so myself, but a lot of time was spent just discovering new shit that is wrong with the car and finding a solution or parts to fix it. My last problem that I now have the headache of dealing with is that the exhaust studs on the turbo outlets are M10x1.25 threaded, but the previous owner already put on regular M10 nuts so the threads are... weird. I only found this out the hard way. So now I will just try if I can in any way fit the front pipe regardless, if not I'll have to redo the studs with the turbos installed. Lesson learned for the future: Redo ALL studs you put your hands on, especially if they are old and the previous owners were inept maniacs. Thanks for reading if you did, will update when the engine runs again. Hope nothing breaks or leaks and I can do a test drive.
    • No those pads are DBA too  but they have colors too. I look at the and imo the green "street" are the best.
