I tried getting rid of the plastic mount, i gave up coz i felt like i was going to break something trying to take the panel off, i unscrewed and unpluged everything i could see and it still didnt wanna come off, you get enough room to mount most speakers if you got an mdf partition, and there is still enought clearance from the grill with this partition. To make mine i just traced around the factory speakers, cut it out, drill where the factory holes are then cut my 4" into the new partition, this has plenty clearance from the grill and the plastic pod, i even sat a crossover in the bottom of the door.

the original plastic speaker mount also has a silastic stuff holding/sealing it to the door..

i cant remember the measurement of the pioneer splits (they are a beefy speaker), but they fit well and sound good. the tweeter is on a custom pod on the inside morror panel, bit far away from the mid (might be messing with imageing) but the panel had holes in it and needed covering..

I still cant work out how to get the damn door trim off, the bastards stuck, it just wont move, so i cant put in mdf panel like you guys have, so i made a mount the same size of the factory speaker and mounted my speaker in that.

wheres it getting stuck?

have a look at the pics i attatched and follow the instructions

1 - there are 2 screws on the part that goes up against the dash

2 - then u hvae to remove the door handle surround use a little bit of force dont be scared to force it

3 - there is one in the little pocket

4 - there are 3 along the bottom

now gently pull the door trim from the bottom towards you so all the clips can pop out then lift it upwards and it should slide off

:D

i agree with booster 12mm is good enough for 6.5 inch splits, you can resize the original trim to fit if you want, however just remember that splits sound different to 6x9's in the rear, i personally like 6x9's in the rear because it offers tighter bass to go from the sub.

the reason why people put splits all round there car is simply for competition, thus the cross over network sends high frequenices to the tweeter and low frequencies to the woofer enabling less distortion then 6x9's.....

however in a car that is only used for in car audio 6x9's honestly sound good when mounting them in the rear they are not that hard to do, if you want i can put them in for you (if you are on the coast and give me a slab of beers)...

and mtopx would of been better if you got them tilted at 30-45 degrees as well :D

yeah, thanks for the help dude.. but im fine fitting and setting up the correct sound stage in the car, just doing a bit of research on the project ahead.. I would personally use coaxial's over splits, but the quality of splits these days is very good. (that would be a good dicussion point there in itself). But anyways.. thanks for the help guys..

    • This seems to be a very popular swap since all the turbo skyline prices went through the roof! I'll let someone more familiar chime in, but I understand that yes you probably want to swap the loom in to swap out the auto TCM stuff. You should not assume everything just plugs in either, you need to check at least the ECU wiring diagram for any differences at the plug at the left headlight and probably the ones near the ECU that join the dash loom too
    • hows it fellas, my first post here which seems crazy cos half the forums i read are like the same age as me haha. to make a long story short ive got an r34 sedan (rb25de neo auto) which im swapping to a s0/s1? rb25det, r33 big box and nismo gt pro lsd. i have the motor and gearbox all bolted up outside the car, old motor and trans out. i bought the motor with stock ecu and loom, do i switch over to that? or will it be easier to get a r34 manual ecu and keep the loom if thats even possible.  also engine mounts look different, anything else thats different or incompatible? cheers, hope this all makes sense Paddy

    • Plan on the day will be to park trackside. Depending on space availability we will try put a small shade tent and a few of the cars on top of the hill inside turn 3, this is an easy to get to parking area with views of Turn 2, Turn 3, Turn 4 and Turn 5 and limited other pieces of the view around the track. IMPORTANT NOTE! One consideration from previous years is from memory the trackside parking sells out before the admission tickets, for that reason I encourage anyone planning on coming to buy tickets for parking now via the official website; https://www.worldtimeattack.com/ The type of parking you are looking for is 2 Day Park & View (Access Around Venue) Vehicle Pass Only Please note this does not include admission to the event itself, remember to grab that also, and kids under 12 get in for free!
