Wed Night Drags Next Week - Anyone Going?

Recommended Posts

my last car was r33 with the same mods,,and the best i got was 14.2,after like 10 runs, never tryd letting tyres down tho, might give that ago with my 32,ive noticed over the last couple of weeks most stockish r33s struggle to even get mid 14s,and most 32s are even slower than that, makes me scared to think my 32 might run a 15,no!

It's been that way for a long time in terms of slow ET's with GTST's , it's just very basic setup issues made worse by people rushing out and buying the cheapest FMIC's and other crap without thought to getting the things they already have working well.

I've breifly owned a R32 gtst that ran low 13's with the stock turbo (better tyres though), they aren't shabby, almost equal to the R33 in potential from a mild setup point of view.

I'll probably head down in a couple of weeks to benchmark the 30+small turbo before my baby comes off the road for the GT35R install :)

I'd be hoping for a low 13! but who knows.. will be interesting to see what the 30 does with the 3.9 ratios..

Makes 245rwhp @ ~4600rpm on 12psi (full boost by 2200rpm).. anyone like to take a guess on what it might do down the 1/4?

Easy 12's if you can get a little traction of the line.

The 3.9 ratio is a good thing for that motor too.

Hmmm cool.

Going to 3.9 was great for drivability but it just doesn't have the neck snapping acceleration that it did with the 4.3's (obviously). A lot easier to drive though, oh and I thoroughly recommend a 3L + button clutch + 2way :P:)

yeh i was probably being a little negitive about running a 15,i gotta get down there and have a crack,id love to get even a high 13,my 32 is very fresh and only has quality parts bolted to it,it made just on 200 hp stock, and now has big fuel pump with reg, full zorst with front pipe, fmic, gtr clutch, and running 0.8 bar, plus had full rebuild not long ago with mostly ACL components, should do 13 i hope.

hey all who went down n howd u go? i left pretty early but managed i 13.727 @ 102mph, with it being the first time ive run the skyline there it took me a bit to get my 60ft down as i had traction troubles in first and second, i managed to get a 2.1sex 60ft time in the end tho, how did use go?

good effort Sam, I think given you weren't able to let the tyres down a 2.1 60ft is great.

G`DAY LAD`S TYRE PRESSURE IS SOMETHING A LOT OF PEOPLE DONT NOT PLAY WITH ENOUGH,GOOD TOO MEET CHRIS & MISS`ES &THEIR R32GTR,AND HAVE A BITE OF CHAT WITH THE LAD`S,cheer`s chuckie.

i was there in my red r33, i was aiming for mid 14s my fastest runs were 14.57 and 14.58 so happy with them but i was getting fair bit of wheelspin need to work on my take offs.

You did well to lop the half a second off after we had a chat, like I said the good news is the terminal mph you had was good for a 13. You put a shield around that pod you have and you will pick up some power as well.

good excuse to go down next week and give it another shot.

    • That was the first session so not a lot to take from the day. It was low 20s ambient and the coolant had got to 110 (and obviously had some pressure!) so that still needs to be addressed. I haven't downloaded the data yet but will. I had refilled the auto trans with Redline DT6 because it claimed the best viscosity I could find at 100o. It wasn't really long enough to get a good feel for that; while the trans got to 100o in the session it still wasn't shifting crisply as I hoped. I think I'll try a few more sessions before judging. No steering motor overheat but I'd hope not in only 1 session! But finally the suspension; it was night and day over the standard stuff and the car was a couple of seconds quicker on the same crappy tyres, which is a huge difference. I'll stick with that and get some sway bars and a mechanical diff sorted too and see how that all goes together
    • I guess it’s partially a compromise of how my car is used, wanting to be able to switch from drift to grip with track side on-car adjustment. Also partially with the way the knuckles are set there is more static camber but less dynamic camber gain.
    • OK, so update from the track day on Friday It was a classic "an unfortunate series of events'. There were a few cars around and when i checked my mirror coming out of the fish hook I notice some smoke from the rear of mine. Looked again and it was getting much worse, I figured I'd blown a turbo or something to got off it and pulled off the racing line. However.... since it is a left hairpin into a right kink, I was on the inside of the next corner. There was a car passing me on the left and a big drop off over the ripple strip on the right......and someone had knocked the witch's hat that was on the apex about 1m onto the track. So, between those 3, I decided to mow down the cone and not damage my car/the other car. Right choice, but surprising result.  The car decided the cone was a small pedestrian so it blew the rear bonnet hinges up to protect their head in the upcoming person to car impact....I didn't see that coming and like an airbag deployment it happened super fast. Straight into the pits from there, everything was driving fine but it became clear it was a coolant leak not smoke, it was billowing up onto the windscreen. Onto the trailer and home. I'll do a separate thread about the repair (once I work out what it is ), but the immediate problem was the bonnet wouldn't open because the front was pinched onto the front bar and would not release. Ultimately we unbolted the hinge from the bonnet, pulled it back a little and it released from the front OK. "There's your problem", the top radiator hose had popped off at the radiator.
    • Yeah that looks like great caster, but I'd suggest trying less front camber some time and seeing if it helps with braking without reducing mid corner speed too much
    • I ended up setting the rear 5mm higher than normal to give some clearance.  My plan is to run the least camber I can in the rear which I think with the extra width is going to need to be -1.75 to -2.00° just to get clearance.  Guards have been rolled and pulled as much as they can/I would be wanting to.  front has the Acostal knuckle with the KPI change and the drop etc. So should be okay with the existing settings I have run with AR1s etc Front: Toe total -2mm(1mm out each side) Caster +7.5° Camber -3.8° Ackerman +15°
