It breaks down like this -

You have a 4ch and a 2ch.

On the 4 channel, you need to bridge 2 channels (the rear two) so that you can run a pair of speakers as well as ONE sub of it. (should be indicators on the speaker terminals on how to bridge it) and run one of the two subs off it as well as a pair of speakers (pref fronts).

THen bridge the 2ch (502Z) into one channel, to run the other sub.

The reason you cant run both subs off the one amp is that to run the subs you need to set the frequency cutoff to LPF (low pass frequency). You can only do this with the rear channels on a sony amp.

PS sony actually put out some VERY good products over the Late 06/Early 07 period - excellent for their money. Pity is that ur amps were in the series before that, so see how you go.

PS after a brief good run of a year there, sony are now shit again.

Ok so thats basically how you bridge the two channel to run sub B, run the two door speaker off the 4ch FRONT outputs, and run sub A off the 4ch's rear outputs, bridged together.

To bridge the channels, you use the negative of one channel and the positive of another channel. As said, there should be indicators on both the two and four channel amplifiers on which terminals to you.

Then, set the 2ch to low pass frequency (LPF), the rear channels on the 4ch to LPF, and the front two channel son the 4ch to High Pass Frequency (HPF).

In a normal world it would make sense to run both subs off the 4ch, sony only put LPF on the rear channels, and you cant run full frequency through a sub.

Any other dramas send me another PM

actually my friend, if you cared to view the picture of the amp, you will see that it allows LPF on both 1+2 and 3+4

hereha1.jpg

inside the red circles are the filter settings, inside the yellow settings you can see where it says "LPF" on both sets of channels.

set both of these to LPF

then, set the lowpass filter dial to the 80mark on all of the filter dials.

set all of the low boost dials all the way to 0. you dont want these on, coz it will cause distortion

leave all the level dials where they are.

so you need to bridge a sub to each pair. so one sub to 1+2 and the other the 3+4

you will need to split the RCA cables though, from the single pair of subout, to 2 pair. one for each channel.

then use the 2 chan to run the front speakers

fair enough. Most sony amps dont run two LPFs but that definitely makes things easier for you, leigh!

PS lets not be a wanker, now, trism. Not everyone is perfect mate. Try not to sound like such a prick to someone on here who simply answered a PM for help. He asked for advice and a quick sketch and i gave him the info i had. Its great that you tracked down a pic of it and saw that, but you dont need to act like an ass to me about it champ.

dont take it to an auto electrician. their job is to fix problems to do with cars stock electronics. dash wiring loom probs, etc etc. not installing car audio.

I second that motion, trism. Im forever fixing things caused by auto elecs. (wrong guage wire (eg 16GA earth to a 1200W mono, with a 4ga pos).

Standard price to have a 4ch and a 2ch installed (wired and mounted) shouldnt exceed $250 all up.

Try autobarn, supercheap, strathfield.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
