Hey all. Yeah my tacho finally died to in my r33. It still shows a few revs but not working properly at all. I was just wondering, has anyone attually repaired one of these. I have taken the tacho out of the cluster and i now have it on the bench setup with some power so i can test it all out. I am just about to start checking out all the components etc and try and find what might be the problem.

Is it possible to fit maybe an aftermarket tacho in the same spot. I am not sure which way to go at the moment. I will just play around with in n see how i go.

Any info you have guys would be great.

Cheers

I have tested the signal coming from the ecu etc and you can see that it varies as you change the revs as expected. So i figure the signal must be all good. just the stupid tacho. I am having a play with it right at the moment. I will tell ya all how i go with it.

LOL sorry mate i will try to hurry up

I had a bit of a play with it. I am not sure what signal to give it to make it work. There is three wires that go to it. Ignition, Ground, and Signal. I connected up 12volts to the ignition and ground connections. I then put the meter across the signal and ground connections and it seemed to be giving out 9 volts. Not sure why this is. I was going to give it a variable voltage signal from 0.9 volts to 2 volts n see what that does.

I am not too sure tho if i am doing the right thing. I might have to do some more research i thinks.:P

Updates soon when i get more info.

Yeah i might have to end up doing that too. My car is a 1995 series 1. I dunno if i can get a series 2 dash cluster and fit that. I not sure if they are the same or not.

It woudl be good tho to know what is wrong with the one i got tho. Might try an auto elec n see what they recon.

S1 and S2 clusters are exactly the same.

As i think has already been posted the 33 gtr cluster or even the nismo cluster will plug straight into a gtst

Actually I don't think Series 1 and 2 are the same.

I'm having the same problem with a R33 series 2 Manual Turbo GTS-T with the flickering tacho.

The Series 2 one I have has 6 circles on the left hand side and 5 on the right hand side for warning lights and airbag indicator.

I have-

checked and cleaned the connections with no luck

reset the ecu with no luck

checked the for sales forum for R33 Series2 GTS-T manual turbo with no luck

checked 4 Import wreckers for the same cluster with no luck.

So has anyone managed to fix this problem without replacing the cluster?

or know if you can pull apart and replace the faulty Series 2 tacho with a Series 1 one?

Any help would be great or else I'm going to have to start looking interstate or overseas soon.

Cheers

Michael

Damn, mine just started freaking out today. Drive to bank, fine. Come out of bank, turn car on and tacho freaks out. Reads approx 1500 RPM higher than normal idle and movement, and is not steady but moves around erratically up or down 100-200 RPM. Would love to know a fix for this.

SII Manual Turbo

cheers

while i was changing my headunit i took my cluster out and cleaned connectors and made sure everything was on tight, still no luck

just get a second hand cluster (from ebay or here in the for sale section) and just change the tacho section, its only 4 or 5 tiny screws holding it in place

    • Hi all,  I am in the market for an R200 longnose diff out of a Z31 300ZX, or S12 RSX, DR30 skyline, or similar, in a 3.9 ratio.  Preferably a late model one with the M12 crownwheel bolts.  The only easy to find advert for one of these was my ad back in 2007 when I sold it on this forum.  I sold the diff as I had sold the car it goes to, but as it turns out, after 18 years I got the car back late last year, so now I'm looking for the diff !  If anyone knows where to find a longnose R200 LSD with the M12 crownwheel bolts, drop me a line at [email protected] - Bonus paid if soomeone comes up with the original diff (stranger things have happened !).  Cheers   Ben D
    • Hi everyone, I used to post here a bit from 2004-2013, when I owned various Nissans, in particular my S12 RSX gazelle, which was sold in 2007.  As luck would have it, after an 18 year hiatus, the car found its way back to me last year, and over the past 11 months I have had the pleasure of restoring it with my kids.  One thing that I am after in particular is a 3.9 ratio R200 LSD for it.  I actually sold the one out of the car here back in 2007 , and it would be incredible if I could track down who I sold it to, so I can see how they have progressed over the years (and to be honest, to see whether I can get the diff back !).  Anyways, hi all and let me know "where are the R200 Longnose diffs all at these days ?  Cheers Ben D
    • Arms will be the same as the G35 or 350Z, but as above, there was a change in the lower control arm where it connects to the ball joint.  That said, you can remove the ball joint cone from your old ball joints and fit them to the new ball joints.  To be honest, I didn't think the ball joints themselves were different. The main ball joint is a bit awkward to replace, you really need to remove the steering knuckle to press out the old one.  Some people have used tools to remove it in place, but it just seemed too hard to get to. If you are going to press out/in that ball joint, then you may as well just replace the bushings in the LCA and the compression rod.  You can buy the compression rod bushing from Nissan, but the LCA bushes, you will need to go aftermarket. Much cheaper than buying the whole arm.
    • Ha, well, it's been.... a bit of a journey. Things have taken much longer than I'd hoped. I'll probably put up a thread at some stage. Hopefully soon. The car's not done any kms since my update in June though, put it that way.
    • Here's the chart for fuel pressure vs. current draw, assuming your base fuel pressure is 3 bar and you run like 0.5bar boost on WOT, you should only momentarily hit 9amps here and there. (Ignore my prev post, I cannot read a chart these days it seems)
