Hi Guys

Last night i gave my R33 A quick and hard gear change from 1st-2nd causing the car to step out a tinybit but once i got home when the car was idleing in my garage i could hear a small funny noise then I put my foot on the clutch and the noise go's away. foot off the clutch comes back.. did i damage my Throw out bearing or is this normalish for Skylines??

thanks :)

Sounds like you have a main shaft bearing noise there, when you push the clutch in the main shaft is not turning so the noise stops .

the thrust bearing noise would be when you put load on it ( that is clutch pushed in ) .

Is this something to be concerned about? i wasnt hoping to touch my G/B for a little while..

your clutch can not have a noise if your foot is not on the pedal, its spinning as an entire assembly locked up to the flywheel and front of the gearbox assembly.

wrxhoon is 100% correct on theory of operation and diagnosis.

if its only there when the pedal is not pressed in, its either normal noise from the gearbox (they all make a bit), or the input shaft bearing is worn/noisy or its the gears on the input and cluster gears have the hard casing worn off the teeth and thus causing excessive noise.

not worth worrying about really if you know you have the correct oil and amount in the box, all you can do is add some nulon g70 gearbox/diff additive to quiten it down a little bit.

and to add to this Bearings have a grumble not a whine , also the gears dont always wear the can stretch and flaten out and this also causes a niose .. Its extremly common on all gtr all the ones i have ever driver have made it lol

    • Unsolicited advice? Keep the engine as close to stock as you can. Nothing wrong with adding some boost and making a little more power, but given where you are, you really don't want to try to make it into a monster. I can't imagine the roads are up to it, and the lack of locla support when it grenades will be a ball ache. FWIW, If there is a dyno around that you can access, then brand new injectors are a good idea, which will lead you to (at least) putting a Nistune in it, which will allow you to put an R35 AFM on it, all of which will make it possible to make it much much nicer to drive and live with.
    • List all of your mods. It sounds like an aftermarket ECU hitting rev limiter. Like a valet mode, or a cold rpm limiter?
    • @Kapr Haha yeah thats the one. I missed that you had a built up engine, I wouldn't want to run it on there either then. It was good in my situation just to replace the original turbo on a stock engine. @MBS206Yep definitely not a replacement for anything name brand
    • You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...
