Hey guys/girls

Car: 1992 Nissan Skyline R32 GTS-T

Km: 79, 699

ok let me explain the whole chain of events ( it may help solve the problem I’m having). ok today at about 1 i was driving my car, i stopped it and was watching a movie in the car for a bit. About 1 hour later i tried to start it but nothing was working. i checked the voltage by using my radar detector, it showed 10.8V. also i do not have a sub connected, i do have 1 amp connected however it was only running a pair of 6 y 9's and I’ve had my DVD player on before for 3 hours at a time and never has this problem arise. any way so i tried pushing it up a hill and then doing a rolling start. However that didn’t work, i checked the voltage again and i was now sitting on 8.9V which is even worse. and this is with the stereo and everything turned off. then i checked and noticed that my parkers (front and rear) lights where on including the interior lighting. i checked if by accident i had turned the knob to parkers, but they were also off. i then checked again and got a reading of 6.3V and after that i couldn’t check as my radar detector said "battery to low". I Rang a mate of mine who has a WRX he bought jumper leads , we connected them however my lights still stayed dim and i wasn’t getting any power through to my car. finally, i removed a cable that is connected to the positive terminal off the car ( i don’t know if all skylines have it but i know the r32's have a wire that is connected too the red terminal. it is one of those wires that has a clip to unhook it and if you do unhook it. all the power to the car is shut off.) after i removed this and waited a while and then connected the wire again i had 10.1V reading, however it still wouldn’t kick over. and still my lights where on and i couldn’t turn them off . after a while off trying it finally randomly kicked over ( while jumper leads still connected) however my idle was really ruff and i revved it a bit and a pop noise came and the car's revs dropped and stalled also white smoke from the rear with a bit of burning smell came. any way i tried again and it started, however the revs are ruff and there is a bit of lag when it hits 2000rpm it stops revving and just stays there , until you plant your foot it will go over it. However the engine also has a whining noise now. i drove it home asap before something stuffed up again on the way. i found out at lights my idle would randomly start to drop below 1000rpm( the speed my car usually idles at) and id have to put my foot down a bit. also i still couldn’t turn off the lights . when i got home my lights where still on so the only thing for now i could think off and did was pull out the 20 Amp fuse( in the interior fuse box) which cuts power to the parkers and the interior dash lights.

Does anyone know what is wrong with my car or what it could be..or how i could fix this problem

thank you very much

niran

    • Nah that is not actually a lot. Just painting my GTR frontend and the little bits to make sideskirts/nismo flare pieces work correctly/fit on the sedan/mount up correctly came to about $7000. Is it a lot? Sure. None of this is economical. Economy would be shelling the car and buying a 2010 Corolla to commute in. The perspective of all of this is different.
    • I have the re003s’ on my 06 XT Forester Turbo and I highly rate them for street wet and dry
    • I don't see any issues here. I've been saying all along this is a big job, the price reflects that.  When the car comes back perfect I'm sure it will feel like money well spent.
    • Remember, take original quote. Double it. Then add a bit more. It's how any project goes.
    • So, I started this repair and got as far as "fixing" the holes with some fibreglass. God all those years working on boats came back quickly. I decided I'd reach out to some rust guys just to see what they would say about it. I came across a guy about 40 mins away and went to see him. He said the windscreen needs to come out, that there might be some more bits around the windscreen and he'd quote them at the time. But his quote was $300 to remove and replace windscreen and $3k for the damage he can see. He said he could respray the roof for $1200 and the bonnet for another $800 (somebody has previously rattle canned it, its horrendous). This is $5300 + any small additional bits. It's a lot, I get that and the name of one of my fave youtube channels 'Not Economically Viable' comes to mind.  I'm not being financially rational, but I've taken him up on the quote. He's opening a new shop in November with more room, so we're waiting for that. I'll leave the currently missing headliner out until then. I'm looking forward to it being fixed and having the paint looking nice again (lots of clear coat issues on the roof too). / flame suit on.
