hey all

recently bought a selby sway bar for 32gtst.

here are the specs related to problem:

nismo 2way - but in a s14 diff case, had to make/get bushes made up for the 2 large bolts (just before the tail shaft) as the hole sizes are different to 32 diffs.

rb25 engine + box

custom tail shaft

recently added rear cradle bushes set to 'overall performance'

pictures tell alot:

see how the stock sway bar allows much more room for the tailshaft then the selby item does

heres my process of elimination:

either the s14 diff makes the tailshaft hang higher then 32 diff casing - any ideas?

or

the sway bar is the wrong one - turns out its the right one BUT as u can clearly see, its to tall and to close to tail shaft

or

i tried putting washers on one side to try and 'push' the bar to the left allowing more space for the tail shaft - failed, the bushes in the link just compress and bring it back to its original position

or

it was something to do with the modification of the tail shaft to fit the rb25 box

or

i have no freekin idea..

took it back to the suspension shop i bought it from, they said they will have to try fit it

just want the bloody thing to have less body roll :(

any ideas would be greatly appreciated

That doesn't like like one of ours, ie; not a Selbys Swaybar, it looks like a Signature swaybar. Where did you buy it from?

i got it from Centreline suspension, only reason i didnt buy it off you was because i needed it asap...

came in the selbys box with stickers invoice ect ect

do you know the right model number for front and rear r32 gtst?

The black standard bar in the picture doesn't look like a normal R32GTST rear bar. Have you changed the subframe in your car? We had another one recently where it had a different (than normal) subframe. The owner was convinced it hadn't had a subframe change, but it was certainly not a normal R32GTST subframe. Maybe Nissan up to their random spare parts bin tricks. From memory we sent him an R32GTR rear swaybar and it fitted up OK, I will check when I get to work on Monday and let you know.

it makes sense because i had to change the rear left control arm, bought one off a r32 gtst, but the gtst had some cone shaped ball joint thing that didnt fit into my hub... ended up having to hack sawing the metal cone thingy off so it was just one long bolt into the hub.

i bought a rear sway bar for my 32 gtst of you a while ago gary.

When i fitted mine the tailshaft rubbed on it, the same as what DjeMz's is in the second pic, but it didnt rub on the floor

i found some 5mm alloy plate and made up some spacers for the "D" bush's to space them down, so now the sway bar doesn't hit when driving, just when i jack the back up the bar pivots enough to rub the tailshaft bolts.

does this effect the way the sway bar works?

when i installed the sway bar i also put on some 18x10 +17s... so i thought it was that rubbing but i noticed it wasnt withing the next 5 sec after i stopped breaking lol.

have u sorted out ur issue or do u just keep driving like that?

Nope, no effect on how the bar works.

The rear bar can rub on cars that are very low, what is the ride height on yours?

As many of you know I have an R32GTST myself, it's a 1990 model M Spec and the master we use to make the swaybars is identical in shape to the OE bar I took of it when I upgraded. As a race car it is about as low as possible whilst retaining decent suspension geometry and it has a 90 mm GReddy titanium exhaust. So if the swaybar fits it, it should fit any R32GTST with the same subframe. Nissan seems to have been in the habit of using a few different rear subframes in R32GTST's and/or lots of cars have had their subframes swapped before they made it to Australia. The most common I have seen so far is the R32GTS4 rear subframe.

Anyway back to fixing DjeMz's problem, the OE bar in the picture looks like an R32GTS4 rear bar. If you PM me your address I will send you a Selbys SNR35A (in 22mm) to try. If it fits OK simply put the SNR26A in the box (that the SNR35A came in) and I will arrange for it to be returned.

the car was pretty legal ride height when i installed the bars, after it didnt fit, felt like lowering the tien hrs all the way to the bottom (well could have gone about an inch worth of turns) so at least something got done lol.

tried it again with the bushes after it was on low, still same result unfortunately.

received the sway bar, thank heaps again, ill try either put it in tonight or tomorrow night.

how do i ship it back... just through aus post or the same blokes that it came from?

If it fits OK simply put the SNR26A in the box (that the SNR35A came in) and I will arrange for it to be returned.

All you have to do is stick an address label (Superior Suspension, 4 Lincoln St Minto NSW 2566) on the box and let me know when its ready

    • KW only offers a set for the R32 GTR. Popular options are D2 racing, Ksport or Öhlins. I have a D2 Racing coilover set, though I don't know for sure which one.
    • Well, the good news is you have more than one very good option for new coilovers in and around your country. Worth the drive over to KW to talk about GTR stuff.
    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
    • There's not a great deal to report here .... except ...... FOR .... LSD!!!  I bought a Quaife LSD from the UK and shipped it here .... Wish I'd just bought locally cause the shipping and duty was $700! But there were so many diffs used in the E90s I just wanted to be absolutely certain I was getting the right one so I spoke with a supplier in the UK who builds race cars and they have heaps of experience with the E90s.  I pulled the diff out which was seriously awesome - I've never done anything like that before, I must have watched 1000 videos on YT about it as well as consulting the Bentley manual. It was super easy in the end. The diff was delivered to the awesome folks at Hornsby Diffs and will be back in a few weeks. I also replaced the diff bushings with some Nolathane ones.  Really looking forward to getting it back and getting back to the track or even the skidpan.
    • yeah... the 13kg/mm springs weren't always in there, I had 10kg/mm but doing a few SMSP commanded heavier front springs. It's so good now going into T1 and T2, just need more seat time and real tyres.
