Hi,

Im installing a water temp gauge on my rb26, and im after peoples opinions on where the best place to put the temp sensor would be. Its a Greddy gauge, but im not interested in using the fitting that goes in the radiator hoses; ive made up a weld on using a BSP (pipe) thread. So my choices are:

- The aftermarket alloy radiator itself (on one of the tanks)

- The engine side of the top radiator hose (the aluminium engine outlet)

- The thermostat housing

Im almost certain that hot water exits the engine via the top radiator hose, so im assuming this is the best place for a water temp reading. Im just interested to hear other peoples opinions.

PS Where is the standard water temp sensor located???

Shaun.

^^ lol, you scared them off with that intimidating avatar picture :D

Stockers are both in the top hose housing. I assume the single pin one's for the dash gauge, and the twin pin ones for the ECU.

I think its a case where Nissan got it correct from factory; IE, i cant imagine how doubling the motors output with all the good bits would warrant a sensor location change (electric water pump setups aside)

Silly Q: but why cant you use the stock locations? If you'd welded it up, I'd tap some holes in the same location, save you from using one of those gaudy top hose thingo's

thats all the jibber jabber i got

Yeah, i agree that i should put it in a relatively standard location, i just wasnt sure where the standard gauge temp was taken from. I assumed it was one of the top sensors on the engine side of the radiator hose, i just wasnt sure.

I dont want to use one of those adaptors shown in the picture, as i think they look shitty. Thats why im making up a weld on, and ill put it on the 'goose neck' thingy before the top radiator hose.

I feel like even more of an idiot after Duncan mentioned that the sensor at the bottom of the radiator was for the air conditioning! I had the sealing surface of that port machined and used a dowty seal because it looked dodgy on my china brand radiator. I could have just welded the thing up because i dont even have air conditioning!

Ill go now.

Shaun.

    • Yep, the closest base tune available was for the GTT, I went with that and made all the logical changes I could find to convert it to Naturally Aspirated. It will rev fine in Neutral to redline but it will be cutting nearly 50% fuel the whole way.  If I let it tune the fuel map to start with that much less fuel it wont run right and has a hard time applying corrections.  These 50% cuts are with a fuel map already about half of what the GTT tune had.  I was having a whole lot of bogging when applying any throttle but seem to have fixed that for no load situations with very aggressive transient throttle settings. I made the corrections to my injectors with data I found for them online, FBCJC100 flowing 306cc.  I'll have to look to see if I can find the Cam section. I have the Bosch 4.9 from Haltech. My manifold pressure when watching it live is always in -5.9 psi/inHg
    • Hi My Tokico BM50 Brake master cylinder has a leak from the hole between the two outlets (M10x1) for brake pipes, I have attached a photo. Can anyone tell me what that hole is and what has failed to allow brake fluid to escape from it, I have looked on line and asked questions on UK forums but can not find the answer, if anyone can enlighten me I would be most grateful.
    • It will be a software setting. I don't believe many on here ever used AEM. And they're now a discontinued product, that's really hard to find any easy answers on. If it were Link or Haltech, someone would be able to just send you a ECU file though.
    • Yes sir am asking is there possible way from aem tuner from wiring pins
    • Have you checked cam to crank timing and confirmed balancer marks are correct?
