Just recently I finished some serious Cisco study and passed my CCNA exam and my girl said she would treat me with what ever I wanted for passing the exam. haha you should never say that to a person who owns a GTR with endless upgrade options. Well this was good timing my GTR was running like an old dog with asthma. It has gradually gotten worse and worse and it was seriously in-need of an upgrade. So I ordered some Splitfire Coils from Croydon Racing Developments and within 24hrs I had them in my hand. So the plan was for the weekend I would put them in. I also searched the forum and could not find any DIY.

This was also perfect opportunity to replace the spark plugs which were last done about a year ago. Previously I had used standard iridium plugs worth about $19 each. I got my weekend taxi driver (aka the misses) and headed off to Super Cheap to see if I could source some good cheap plugs what the F##K was I thinking super cheap the Misses was happy seeing the price of spark plugs on the wall $3-$5 each.

Long story short they did not have what I wanted and I walked around to Autobarn lucky they are close to each other and I spoke to guys and they had a good range of NGK iridium's. I settled for the Iriway 7 @ $30 each the same stuff Greddy and branded stuff is made off except there name is on it IMO. Previously I had the standard NGK iridium but this time I wanted to treat myself and the GTR since the misses is paying for it so I also got a magnetic spark plug socket size 5/8 this is good trust me the spark plugs don't fall out when picking them up or when replacing them back in. Got to the counter gave everything to the misses and $190 later misses nearly fainted she says "nothing f@#kn cheap about the GTR" I had to laugh.

Ok down to the nitty gritty. This is not a hard job to do once you know what to do. I am not a mechanic what so ever but I do believe I can try to save some money where I can and this is not rocket science. What I will point out is if you got a sore back then don't do it but that's about it. Just follow the steps and it should be all good.

Once I was finished I took my girl for a test drive to see the difference. Man I all I can say the instance difference you notice when you put your foot down. This was unbelievable the GTR drove so much better I can't describe how good it felt to drive the car the way it was intended to drive. All I can say is this is an important vital upgrade on an almost 20yr car. Me and the misses were very impressed can't wait to drive it again.

Was it worth it ........yes it's definitely worth it.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
