02 Sensor Question ( Please Do Not Take This Of Untill I Get Some Good Answers First)

Recommended Posts

the general maintenance question part on 02 sensors isn't really visited much these days so i would like the moderators to keep this post open untill i can get a few replies first, please.

I am installing a new front/dump and hiflow cat on sat and decided to save time and just replace the 02 sensor at the same time this saturday comming with abo bob....

my question is i just bought an EL falcon 02 sensor from repco for $71.99, I made sure that the thread would fit the new dump pipe i'm installing.... My R33 gtst series 2 has 3 wires for the 02 sensor, 2 white and one black, and the new 02 sensor has 2 black and one blue. I am assuming that the blue wire on the new 02 sensor connects to the black wire on my car, and i supose it doesnt matter which other 2 wires are conected to which????? can somebody confirm this????

i know this sounds like a simple deduction question but please no bullshit replies, only answer if you have reason to believe this is the correct way to connect them....

did the exact same thing to my car, and no, the colours dont make a difference. the blue goes to the black, and the others are the reference wires. you should have got a piece of paper with instructions on it on your new o2 sensor. should be on that.

nah didnt get the paper that came with it, think the store clerk lost it when he opend the box..... anyway you told me what i need to know floyd

cheers

ford el falcon 02 sensor works fine on R33 GTST

many have done so in the past and still working fine

my R33 has PFC and has ford el falcon 02 sensor and still going fine

in most automotive shops its easier to ask for a ford el falcon 02 sensor as its more common

if you say its a 1997 R33 Skyline they go - that car doesnt exist, or "isnt that 1987" - ie: R31 is only on their system

the sensor used in the R33 is a generic 3 wire 02 sensor, same as the ford el falcon 02 sensor

so its much easier to ask for a ford part cos its on all of the computers and they all stock it, plus it would be a cheaper part too

the ford el falcon one supplied will be a generic 02 sensor and not a specific ford part in a ford box with a ford plug

just a plain jane 3 wire 02 sensor with wires

the wires are heater, heater and signal

so the two that are the same colour are part of the heater circuit and the unique colour wire is the 02 signal wire (to the ecu)

as long as you match up the unique to unique and the two same colour wires to the two same on the loom you cant go wrong

    • I didn't think about how a circle works before, dumb.  Before, I had .9mm restrictor bolts but I can't use these cause they were shorter aluminium bolts that just tear off their threads when tightening since the OEM lines are thicker than the shitty braided one that was installed previously. Now I use longer 1mm stainless steel restrictor bolts. I think the difference will not affect the health of the turbos, but I guess I'll have to drill out the main feed bolt as I agree multiple restrictions sound dodgy. The one that was installed with the braided line was just too short, but completely without a restrictive hole.
    • Tomei or Nitto, don't use the OEM one or Cosmetic ☺️
    • After cleaning up a rusty cooling system in a 33 gtst that's been sitting for years it seems to have cleaned out the head gasket too haha. It seems the Tomei metal gasket works without machining surfaces? Or put oem? Also should put an oil restrictor while the head is off? Thanks
    • Thanks, I definitely saw the more expensive options from Crank and driveshaft shop. Thank you for the D-max option.  Still hopeful someone has an OEM out of the box option I found that the 300zx NA Left drive shaft is a good match for the Right on the R33. https://www.gsplatinamerica.com/product/ncv53040 Just need to find Left CV for the R33, I cannot find any <=22" axles.
