Firstly, it is impossible to get the original finish back. The only way to repair a front lip is to repair it via the method you spoke of (plastic welding) and then to prime and paint it.

I have been through this before. Painting is your only option. It is impossible to match that 'elephant scrotum' finish that is on the front lips from factory.

I have a MIDORI carbon fibre fron lower lip but it was damaged and repaired. It has to be primed and painted, but at the moment it is bogged and you can still see the carbon. I think they are about $1100 so you can have it for $400 if you want.

Oh yeah, also, Joe you are mistaken. Last time i checked with a genuine nissan dealer, a brand new genuine front lower lip for a BNR32 GTR was about $830, not the $490 that you claim.

PM me if interested.

Tom

BNR32, I have had this sort of repair done in Sydney. They can recoat the bar in a plastic finish that is actually heated onto the plastic after it has been plastic welded. The finish is as good as new and will not peel like paint will (and yes they can match the original black/grey colour)and the cost to do it is very reasonable. Nothing is impossible, you just need to know the right people.

The price for the lower lip is accurate as I've just bought one through nissan. The trick is to go to your local smash repairer and get them to order it in for you. They get a discount from nissan and you give them a case of crownies for there efforts. $830 for the lower lip is a bit overboard. I was quoted $560 to buy it over the counter, I think you should check again on that one.

My bar got repaired once and resprayed then damaged it again, this time the damage was a bit more serious then a scratch, so i decided to get different style front bar altogether

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
