Hey all, im looking at getting a decent DVD HU, pre-requisits include obviously

- DVD playback

- "Giga" mp3 dvd (a dvd full of mp3's)

- has a USB function

- I want it to be double din as i don't want it to pop out over the ac controls

- naturally a good price is great

I came across this JVC unit (KW-AVX800) which to me seems to be quite good, if anyone has any suggestions or input, id like to hear it, here is a link to the site i may purchase it from.

Hey mate,

I was looking at getting the JVC AVX-810, the price on the website is a lill high though, JB do them for $840 cash money:D

The difference between the JVC AVX-800 and JVC AVX-810 is the 810 has a detachable face plate. Still the same price ($840)

I heard good things about the 810, but from what I have seen the screen quality on the Sony XAVW1 Double Din is allot better. Go into JB and play with the 2, they are both screen adjustable. Tilt them both to the max they can go, and then look from the top and bottom you will see that the Sony’s picture remains sharp and clear while the JVC at full tilt will loses clarity and sharpness as well as colour.

From what I have read and seen, bang for your buck (considering they both have roughly the same futures) is the Sony. You can get them at $800 from JB cash money (a mate got his for $740 so depends on which JB you go to) plus they come with a 2 year warranty.

I have 2 friends which have the Sony Double Din (1 IS IN A Subaru Impreza 2008, and the other is in a 200sx s15) and they love it, the only problem I saw was that when you make a DVD music CD and put too many songs it takes a while for it to read them!

Hope that helped,

Vlad

Ok cool, thanks for that man,

The thing that is pushing me to the JVC unit though is that it supports A hard drive throught USB

in one of those vids, the guy explains that even though the specs for the unit say that it only supports up to a 10gb HD, he has a 160gb drive in his glove box and it runs perfectly fine, so i'd really like to do the same.

On the JB site they have the JVC KWAVX710 for $849 and the sony XAVW1 for $798 but they don't list the JVC AVX800 or AVX810

    • Absolute f*cking nightmare. I had to take breaks constantly, and I was always pissed off when I got home. The line split in Italy on day 2 (we drove from the Netherlands), lol. Driving any narrow European town was... well, sh*t.   Appreciate it man. Here, I'll just drop a favourite from the load I took on Saturday.   I'll update here when things happen with the car, the thing is, with stock power and almost everything chassis-wise taken care of, there really are no problems. 268,000kms now and counting.
    • Ah! I actually managed to snag a lightly used set.... that aren't so suitable for me right now. They don't work on a GTT without some cutting or creative heat moulding. I thought about reselling them myself cause I didn't want to murder them, but it looks like I'm probably going to attempt to murder them/melt them because I may as well. @GTSBoy @PranK can somebody close this thread?
    • Hey mate,  I have a set, one is slightly damaged but wont be noticable once installed.  Shoot me a message if your still after them
    • I couldn't wait But, the black constant tension hose clamps were too thick and there wasn't enough clearance at the T/B and I couldn't get it to seat properly, so I had use a silver one there I also added some 3" silicone over the alloy bit that goes through to hole on the radiator support as it looked like it was sitting on the edge of the hole in the radiator support, I never noticed a rattle or anything, but there was a witness mark It is basicly done, and I can live with the silver hose clamp at the T/B, I will get a black clamp for the head vent though where it is attached to the bulkhead fitting  It never stops...LOL, only issue now with the shock tower brace is it slightly touches the under bonnet liner now, if I leave it it will either wear some paint off the brace where it touches, or damage the liner, so I removed the liner to see what I have to work with, with the liner removed I have about 20mm of clearance, but sadly the middle part of the underside of the bonnet is only dusted with paint and looks crap, so I cannot have that, but.... as I have a roll of Carbuilders premium under bonnet insulation in the garage laying around that is only 5.5mm thick (we were going to use it on the boys Patrol, but he crashed the front of it a few months and it was written off, hence why he now drives my old Honda Accord Euro), I'll use the OEM liner as a template and get the Carbuilders stuff fitted up to cover that dusted paint up
