sounds like you have more than one problem probably began just needing a good tune explaining some smoke and being laggy, (not sure why your really pushing a fresh engine too hard either, but anyway) but since pulling pipes off and cleaning then putting them back on im sorry to say this but i think you have a cooler pipe leak or something now too, ive had very similar problem in the past, only to find after many hours on a dyno and removing replacing removing replacing the front bar and many other hoses there was one hose that was starting to strech open just as it was comming on boost. it would richen wright up and obviously stop making boost.

when the car was at idle it was perfect , but as soon as she start making power it would slide open and SFA :D

sorry just my 2 cents

It's not a tunning issue as the engine is completely stock apart from the HKS 2510 turbos. These turbos will flow nearly same air as the stock turbos at the same boost levels so where the problem is won't be effected by this as the air flow is well down from where the fuel/timing maps run out of resolution.

I really can't see where there could be a pipe leak all pipes have been removed and checked, I will defiantly take on board what you have suggested and I will buy new rubber joiners and clamps for the whole system. I guess the only way to really find the leak in on a dyno.

BTW its not a freshly built engine it is a second hand engine with around 70k on the clock.

The newly built engine has to wait till the wifes ute is paid off then RIPZ 3L will be on the way. Funding approved by wife just gotta work my ass off and pay of her ute now.

Cheers for the help guys

ok sorry assumed engine had just been fully built (my bad, day dreaming), umm well yes if all youve done is just put the HKS turbos on and it ran fine but then after you flushed your cooler it became a problem then yeah leaning on piping leaking somewhere.

ive tried to show (with red arrows) where mine was leaking, the actual clamp was on and but the hose wasnt actually fully around the lower pipe, and it wasnt visiable cause it was actually on the back side. not sure if you run pods or an air box either but, seeing as i had the air box, when the car was on the dyno there was no way of hearing it actually leaking, so make sure that youve checked it all before putting it on a dyno only to spend 8 hours and finding nothing :P sorry.

good luck

My original engin had blow 5th piston so i purchased another engine with 2510's already on her.

Currently running pod's. So since putting the engine in it has never ran right.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ok so ive started some proper checking before i buy the new rubber joiners tomorrow and i think i found something weird

When the engine starts to cut out im going right off the load side on the fuel map.

afm voltage was hitting past 4v this really dosnt seam normal.

So that tells me it either boost leak(as suspected by alot of people even tho i cant hear anything) or my afm's are f**ked

soldered up afms and first go she boosted in 1st and then started playing up again.

Any oe got some working 32 gtr afms i can borrow to test with?

Have you checked the wastegates to see if there seated?

If there not it won't make boost.

Un plug the hose to the actuator and pump in compressed air (set your compressor to 20psi) and give em blow.

do a compression test mate,

then check base idle postion on the standard computer. also check the position of the crank sensor. make sure its at standard.

check exhaust gaskets on turbos, dumps etc.

all else fails try new set of plugs.

Cheers.

didnt see previous post sorry,

Your airflowmeters are Farked mate, get replacements also check all the wires.

happend to my car as well, i installed Z32s but check the gaksets at the same time turbos, exhaust etc.

one afm was showing 4.6v the other only 4v and even then they shouldnt be that high no way nearly 300wk of air is comming out of the turbos

both airflow meters should read 12v on the power FC hand controler.

So yea apart from that check the wires maybe change them out with a mates airflow meters.

    • I'm struggling with a similar issue on an RB26. Make sure you know whether it's volume or resonance. Mine seemed louder when cruising compared to at idle. I downloaded a decibel meter for my phone. Take my less than scientific results with a couple grains of salt, but the decibels were the same at idle and at cruise. Mine seems to be a resonance problem. At 2500-3500 rpm, the sound is different and "louder" to my ear. I think it's vibration from the pipe, the car body, the floor or something creating tone. Anyway, consider that it may not be strictly a volume problem.
    • Does this count as a time trial as well? I got all gold in the master super licence (1 lap time trial) and received a McLaren MP4/4 for my trouble.  If anyone else has done this, did you ride the wall right around the first long right hander at Lake Louise snow track to get gold? I couldn't do it any other way... best I could do without riding the was was within 2 tenths of the gold time.
    • I definitely get the low power, sporty car to drive to smash gears but not be doing eleventy million miles an hour! It makes all the normal drives fun!   Rev match tune sounds like the funs! I didn't know the NC had a DBW throttle!   As for me, still have the Skyline, it still has the Barra in it. It's been pushed to the side of the workshop at the moment. Pretty much waiting on me finishing the wiring, and dropping new fuel lines in. Got myself an ACDC Tig end of last year so been teaching myself TIG welding to build a few things for the Skyline. The missus wrote off her GTB liberty at the end of last year, and got it back on salvage rights stupid cheap. It's also still registered, so will mean easier for me to take to the track already done most of the panel damage, just playing "clear the workshop" to make space to pull the motor and box out, fix some oil leaks, replace the clutch, and replace a few minor broken things.  Also got a Lathe at the start of the year, which is adding to the annoyance of no space, which is another reason I'm trying to build things to get more space, to get the Lathe back in a final home for it. It's a BIG lathe, can turn a 355mm diameter, and 1metre between centres... Got it at a steal! So between it and the TIG and old MIG welder, I'll be fabbing some fun little shit up But we've had a lot of shit stuff happening at home, so it's slow going getting things done. But one step at a time!
    • I love Catalunya.  Got a 1:54.632. The AMG is a hoot.
    • I hadn't got that far, my main worry was the connection to the actual calipers themselves. I'm just using new (ish) stock brake lines in the stock setup. I've just had a stud welded to the knuckle that is a little lower than the original stud (so my knuckles have two studs each side) to not have it be stretched so far in previous BBK setups, so the "block" (in the second picture) mounts a little lower for me and I hope I don't need to change anything. I may have even changed the connection to the calipers in the past and have since forgotten I did that. I may not have. Guess how I'm gonna find out. Source: hopium
