The guys involved have gotten over it, lets not spoil what was a really good event with little arguments. I'm sure that the feedback has reached the organizers and their concerns have reached the competitors. For the next event, perhaps both sides can take the others points of view into account and we can reach a happy medium that keeps everyone happy. I would love to get out to MP for some racing and hope that we can see some more events like this in the near future. I'm still cranky at myself that I wasn't there as a competitor, but there will be another oppertunity i'm sure. I was not warned at all but could have been. Funny thing is I had in n my mind as I pusehd the boost button a little early coming onto the straght and did a big fish tale, slight over correction coming onto the straight on one lap. There is enough to think about controlling these cars to have to think about getting black flagged and incorrectly for drifting. There should be a warning to. That said, I would love to see all your footage with a beer having a laugh about the whole situation. lets face it, I dont mid a good slide and not immune to the pointy end of Mrs Campbells toung... like at the end of the last A sprint Round. I've put it to bed I'm cool. But as a note, that is my only footage. I only had that one full session. Next session I only got under the bridge then rolled around the circuit pulled the car off and went home... I'd love to see Brad post up his footage following me, as Im sure it will be a bit twitchy, but would mirror the view out of the back of my car. (On the friday the car was much much looser, and I probably would have accepted a warning that day lol) good event. Certain things I didnt agree on with it's running but thats life ay. On further discussions I am coming to understand it is only the marshall doing as the circuit owner wishes, and the locals are used to it. Every other race track in Aus I have been on doesnt have a problem with power-oversteer. Now I know Morgan Park does, I'll have to think about my driving style and put some effort into car setup before I go back there. Real shame I hurt my car and couldnt have a real go at the times after first session, would loved to have tried to keep the slot car honest with the rest of the chasing pack. 260DET Posted April 18, 2009 Share Posted April 18, 2009 The club that owns Morgan Park has very definate ideas on what is not acceptable driving, something that the National's organisers had to be very careful to adhere to. It is also a CAMS circuit which rarely sees powerful street cars so the people that go there and officiate are just not used to their 'performance'. On the other hand the AASA circuits Lakeside and particularly QR are used to seeing powerful street cars and are not nearly so fussy about a bit of car attitude on the track. To put it another way, MP is conservative old school. Hopefully the next Q Nationals sprint will be held at Lakeside which in my opinion is a far better circuit than MP anyway. If your car is over 95db you are not allowed to run at lakeside wich is a bit of a joke in my personal opinion as this does rule out a lot of serious track cars that (myself included) would love to run there lets face it 95 db is not a great deal of noise I have a stock standard R32GTR and was recently tested by the police for db in a stationary test and it tested at 98db and this is 100% standard so i seriously doubt that my race car is going to be anywhere near capable of meeting 95db. dat2kman Posted April 18, 2009 Author Share Posted April 18, 2009 One other point to consider with running events like a Niss/Dat nats is that many entrants come from a great distance, this year there were 5? from Western Australia, quite a few more from Vic, and approx 20 from SA, is, the cost to get here, the cost to be an event participant, bear in mind that there are other event costs, not just the entry fee to a sprint event, and, with circuits run by the Qld Raceways team, there is a perception that to hire a circuit so that a club can run an event, is very costly. As a member of other clubs that run events, the last I heard of hire fees for Qld Raceway at Willowbank was something like $26000 for two days, ($13000 per day?), when you divide this up amongst the number of sprint entrants at the NisDat nats, (80, and approx 12 withdrew just prior) the sprint fee for this gets very costly. The Morgan Park component cost was $140 per entrant, and the Z club is not only hiring the trtack, but also hired all garages, ( which are extra cost, just like at Lakeside) and will absorb this cost on behalf of entrants, other income and grants will cover the excess track fee, but the idea is to come out at revenue neutral, and not loose heaps of club finances. Many do not realise the costs involved with running an event such as this to cater for just one Marque of car. The budget was something like $35000 plus, and we relied of a certain number of entrants for show and Shine, drags and sprints, catered function/dinner, etc etc, and as the drags were cancelled due to rain, there is a financial drain on the club, something that has to be accounted for. Maybe next time we let an organisation like Qld Raceways, who operate Lakeside, look after the total running of the Sprint component, because the organisers of NDN 09 had a devil of a job to do it, as well as compete themselves! 260DET Posted April 19, 2009 Share Posted April 19, 2009 On the 95db noise limit at Lakeside, thats a condition of its use by the Government fun police so its non negotiable. In practice only noticeably noisy cars are pinged, mainly rotors and those who have modified exhaust systems with little muffling. Personally I'd be happy to sacrifice a few Kw to run Lakeside so it is a personal choice. And Jason, QR was used for the Nationals before with a minimum of drama, a decent lap by lap timing system and a modest fee. Only one club member was actively involved in running the sprints, everyone else was free to enjoy the day. Its my understanding that MP was the circuit of choice for NDN09 without any real consideration of using QR so..................
