Yeh, attitude does have things to do with things. But i wasnt rude to the cops, who pulled me over and did do everything they asked me to. And the phone call made i asked her very nicely to begin with to ask for a 2nd opinion but they couldnt help me in redoing a hieght measurement, which then really cause me to be frustrated. If the cop that pulled me over would not help me then and contacting another station wouldnt either then it doesnt really leave me much choice.

And doing a RWC doesnt cost 700 but which car really does get rwc the first time through, theres bound to be other things i need to fixing and getting a quote for seat belt and installation would cost around the $150 and knowing that im desprite for these parts before the easter break they will overcharge. And yeh the $186 fine... hehhhhh.......

Gee, every time I've been defected in VIC (live in NSW though), it's just a matter of getting a RWC for $45, then going to both the RTA and VicRoads, and having them argue over the fone at each other as to who can clear it cause it's not on the other's computer system yada yada yada.

I have noticed WAY more blatant revenue raising and bullshit defecting courtesy of VIC police vs NSW. I also had the situation once where a sixpack holder being dragged along by the collector pipe on the extractors was the excuse for a cop to say too low, the handbrake clicking bs etc. When I got defected in my R32, i got told to 'stuff chicken wire up the exhaust i dont care just shut it up to get it cleared' (decat, no mufflers), but the atmo BOV HAD to go, TOTALLY against emissions laws. So I sold it.

I'd go to the supervisor at the station or failing that, the Ombudsman. Generally speaking if you're not on your P's they won't pick on you for no reason (except for TMU), at least around here.

Mate the second i found out niether of them had it on thier computers, i would have run outside ripped the bitch off and been on my merry way!

I'm diguisted on how many times they change certain modifications laws in under a year. i recently got picked on for the size of my rims and height.

Last time i got pulled over for them they were legal now i get told that they change the size and diameter bs etc etc and i cant have them now.. unfortunatly the modification laws are fked. i always carry a copy of the official vicroads modification rules in my glovebox as i have had trouble in past with cops not knowing what they are talking about trying to do you for stupid stuff which are perfectly fine.

With the height the cop didnt have a measuring tool and i was parked on a hill and he suggested to use this logbook which he claimed was 100ml i politly told him that the logbook doesnt count as a measuring tool as it doesnt display any proof of the height and whipped out the rules and he didnt bother arguing..

End of the day you get some cops who are just doing there job who actually know there stuff and then you do get the occasional ones that just want your car off the road..

Why on earth would police respond to a punch on/brawl when it costs them money to attend plus the risk of injury to themselves when they could just pull over cars and increase revenue for the state?

At the end of the day, criminal driving and life endangering vehicles are being stopped with the added bonus of more revenue.

If you prefer real policing to start happening then the only way to do this is to write to ur state liberal member for ur area and ask him what the Liberal Govt plans to do about this if it takes office at the next election. If enough ppl speak up they have no choice but to listen or lose another election.

once u get defected enough u know the procedure.

its nothing really serious. as long as your car isnt that heavily modified just fix up the minor stuff on your car give engine bay a clean go get a road worthy.

worse comes to worse fork out some money dodgy rwc.

and head to vic roads.

and during the 7 day period that your allowed to drive your car. do as many chap laps as u want.

cops love defecting people

if u got time have a listen to this

gotta turn up sound to hear everything.

i just shutup and let her talk LOL

Holy sh**...

Did she just keeps on saying "your car is illegal, bla bla bla, you don't need to be driving in a fast car, & something about getting a racing license to drive a race car?" Also did she actually mention something about a "dead body?!" :(

Obviously watches too much TT/ACA.

Man I got to hand it do you for just staying quiet the whole time, I don't think I could have hold it down for that long, especially her voice annoys the hell outta of me (maybe its coz of the recording?); voice sounds too similar to those bitchy house wife voices complaining on TT/ACA.

You have just inspired me to keep a tape recorder in my car for the future :w00t:

Out of curiosity, what did you get defected for? I could hear her constantly complaining about your car being too low & going fast?, but that was all I could make out.

Seems like you guys on the Eastern states are having a harder time with defects compared to WA.

:(

if you keep a tape recorder in the car .. you have to inform the officer that you are recording the conversation and to get his verbal consent before taping can proceed otherwise it is not valid in court.... I just press the REC button anyway.. never know what can happen these days

There is no shortage of cops in the VP. There is just an allocation problem. Move more cops from defecting duty to crime-fighting and problem solved :)

The total revenue raised from defecting imports (when you consider the administration costs to the VP/Vicroads/State Govt) of employing/training people to do it, clear it, enter and manage the data entry, etc is probably not as much as we would think. Especially when you consider you could move that manpower to SOLVING CRIMES, which would mean VP wouldn't need to offer so many million dollars of rewards to the general public for information on crimes left unsolved due to inadequate manpower.

Where do i get the modification rulebook?

You do realise you can cop defects for other items whilst driving during the period you have to fix up the car :D

im definately guna find time to read that rulebook.... thats so not cool, but that recording.... awesome :P

just wondering if they so no to the recording and u dont have any witnesses and theres 2 cops in the patrol car wat can u do with 2 versus one they could just say whatever? how you get around all that and have them taped without it being deemed illegal etc.

also once they leave you or while their harassing you can u call in for another cop to come and have a look and redo the inspection?

LOL, yeah you can get another cop in but do you really think there going to give an opposing view to the other cop, when it comes to situations like that there nothing better than organized crime, they stick together.

You can secretly record the police (and anyone) when your chatting to them in VIC. Its 100% legal unless your making some commercial profit from playing the recording.

Can you then use it as evidence though?

ive been treated unfairly aswell recently with my defect, got defected 1.5 weeks ago now. as i got done for my bonnet pins and rims. i fixed it all. but on the defect the cop wrote cannot be cleared unless a engineers report is required for my bonnet pins to comply with the ADR's, i asked if i put on my stock bonnet on so i dont have any pins on it could that clear and they said no i have to have an engineers report even with a factory stock bonnet... wtf? the worst part of this all is. when i tried to clear it. it isnt even on vicroads system for anything to be cleared so technically they said my car is not defected. but then what am i suppose to do if you are given 5 days to clear it and then after that you cant drive car, and in those 5 days its not even on vicroads system for anything to be cleared as nothing has been put through. i went to the cop station to see the cop but he wasnt on duty.. so i am a bit puzzled on what i should be doing.. i still dont understand why i would require an engineers report if i have a stock bonet put back on. im pretty sure stock bonnets comply with ADRS since there made with the car...?

    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
    • Nah, that is hella wrong. If I do a simple linear between 150°C (0.407v) and 50°C (2.98v) I get the formula Temperature = -38.8651*voltage + 165.8181 It is perfectly correct at 50 and 150, but it is as much as 20° out in the region of 110°C, because the actual data is significantly non-linear there. It is no more than 4° out down at the lowest temperatures, but is is seriously shit almost everywhere. I cannot believe that the instruction is to do a 2 point linear fit. I would say the method I used previously would have to be better.
    • When I said "wiring diagram", I meant the car's wiring diagram. You need to understand how and when 12V appears on certain wires/terminals, when 0V is allowed to appear on certain wires/terminals (which is the difference between supply side switching, and earth side switching), for the way that the car is supposed to work without the immobiliser. Then you start looking for those voltages in the appropriate places at the appropriate times (ie, relay terminals, ECU terminals, fuel pump terminals, at different ignition switch positions, and at times such as "immediately after switching to ON" and "say, 5-10s after switching to ON". You will find that you are not getting what you need when and where you need it, and because you understand what you need and when, from working through the wiring diagram, you can then likely work out why you're not getting it. And that will lead you to the mess that has been made of the associated wires around the immobiliser. But seriously, there is no way that we will be able to find or lead you to the fault from here. You will have to do it at the car, because it will be something f**ked up, and there are a near infinite number of ways for it to be f**ked up. The wiring diagram will give you wire colours and pin numbers and so you can do continuity testing and voltage/time probing and start to work out what is right and what is wrong. I can only close my eyes and imagine a rat's nest of wiring under the dash. You can actually see and touch it.
    • So I found this: https://www.efihardware.com/temperature-sensor-voltage-calculator I didn't know what the pullup resistor is. So I thought if I used my table of known values I could estimate it by putting a value into the pullup resistor, and this should line up with the voltages I had measured. Eventually I got this table out of it by using 210ohms as the pullup resistor. 180C 0.232V - Predicted 175C 0.254V - Predicted 170C 0.278V - Predicted 165C 0.305V - Predicted 160C 0.336V - Predicted 155C 0.369V - Predicted 150C 0.407V - Predicted 145C 0.448V - Predicted 140C 0.494V - Predicted 135C 0.545V - Predicted 130C 0.603V - Predicted 125C 0.668V - Predicted 120C 0.740V - Predicted 115C 0.817V - Predicted 110C 0.914V - Predicted 105C 1.023V - Predicted 100C 1.15V 90C 1.42V - Predicted 85C 1.59V 80C 1.74V 75C 1.94V 70C 2.10V 65C 2.33V 60C 2.56V 58C 2.68V 57C 2.70V 56C 2.74V 55C 2.78V 54C 2.80V 50C 2.98V 49C 3.06V 47C 3.18V 45C 3.23V 43C 3.36V 40C 3.51V 37C 3.67V 35C 3.75V 30C 4.00V As before, the formula in HPTuners is here: https://www.hptuners.com/documentation/files/VCM-Scanner/Content/vcm_scanner/defining_a_transform.htm?Highlight=defining a transform Specifically: In my case I used 50C and 150C, given the sensor is supposedly for that. Input 1 = 2.98V Output 1 = 50C Input 2 = 0.407V Output 2 = 150C (0.407-2.98) / (150-50) -2.573/100 = -0.02573 2.98/-0.02573 + 47.045 = 50 So the corresponding formula should be: (Input / -0.02573) + 47.045 = Output.   If someone can confirm my math it'd be great. Supposedly you can pick any two pairs of the data to make this formula.
