SteveL
just doing some homework. would anyone here know how these 2 gearboxes are different? if they are at all? There are a number of major differences, although the gears themselves are very similar: - bellhousing is different in terms of bolt pattern. Also the starter motor bolts to the side of the bellhousing and the starter body faces toward the rear of the car. - Z32 uses a 'remote shift' arrangement where the gear lever (shifter) isn't attached directly to the gearbox. There's a rod arrangement connecting the gear lever to the gearbox. - extension housing is different because the gear lever doesn't mount to it, plus it's a bit shorter. R-SPEC
shit. thought it would only need an RB bellhousing to make it work :S thanks heaps for that info Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/265613-r33-rb25det-vs-300zxz32-gearbox/#findComment-4538602 Share on other sites
SteveL
This is a Z32 gearbox, you can see what I mean about the shifter: Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/265613-r33-rb25det-vs-300zxz32-gearbox/#findComment-4538664 Share on other sites
SteveL
shit. thought it would only need an RB bellhousing to make it work :S OK, you've waited long enough.....sorry There IS a gearbox that was used with VG series engines that is very similar to the RB25DET gearbox, with the only real difference being the bell-housing. A mate has one behind a VG30DET in a 260Z. I believe the gearbox was used behind VG33, which was the engine in local spec Navara (I think around mid 90's ??) Anyway that's what I think your after, but don't expect it to be cheap. R-SPEC
hmm internally is it the same as rb25 gearbox? coz im pretty sure the 300zx box is... arent navaras 4x4s? wouldnt their box be 4x4 specific or nah? might have to go down to my wrecker and see if he has any of these, doubt it though Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/265613-r33-rb25det-vs-300zxz32-gearbox/#findComment-4541928 Share on other sites
