Hello,

A bunch of us are aiming to go to Japan in August, trying to keep our budget low and see some Dori.

Just wondering what your experience/recommendations with particular youth hostels are?

I've been to:

Shin-Osaka - Awesome, I think it even has AC.

Kyoto - Worst ever

Nikko (dunno which one) - Average

Sasebo (I think, it's really far west) - Good, very nice friendly people

Hakata (not sure about this one, it was more like a hotel but 1/3 the price) - Good, single room with everything, costs more than the others but I don't think it's a hostel....

Trying to find more info on places around Ebisu, Tokyo, Nagoya and Koichi.

I have no idea what's close to Ebisu, if there are any places there.

I got lucky and stayed in a hotel in Tokyo last time, but had to spend an extra night in a run down place for the same price :P. I stayed in a Ryokan the time before, that was awesome but I can't find it again. It was right down/up from Tokyo Dome.

Anyway, any of your experiences or recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Over Golden Week, I stayed in Kochi Youth Hostel. Also, the JYH in Tokushima.

Both were very nice.

The Kochi one is a little far to walk into the city, but you can easily drive or ride your pushie in.

The Tokushima one also, is a little ways out, but situated directly on a beach park with some nice views and a relaxing vibe.

Both were run by very lovely people, and were very spacious rooms with nice furnishings. Pretty cheap too - about 3000 yen a night from memory.
