Hey ppl.

Happy new owner of a r34 manual 4 door with 70 000km.

So far have changed pads to bendix, oil change with 10-40w penrite fully synthetic and bosch filter.

Getting a power run Friday, wondering what it should make. I use mobile 8000.

With sump and filter they should take 5 litres of oil?

What oil pressure should they sit on (factory gauge)? Mine is just below 4 when driving. and bit over when boosting.

Also oil temp seem to be on 92 when fully warmed after 12 mins or so.

Are these figures normal?

Any noobie hints and tips with making the car last as a non thrashed daily?

Hi Samuel,

Welcome to SAU... :whistling:

All the figures you've quoted are OK. Oil temp can go to 97 up a hill at throttle.

Cheers, T

Tips?

If your car is just outta Japan, I'd change all coolant fluid and get the Jap H2O outta there lest it affect radiator, heater core etc.

Check for spot rust on rails, damaged areas (that have been presumably fixed OK).

Change oil every 5000Km. Keep logs/receipts to maintain value of your car (if one day you sell it).

Detail ie clay bar/polish/wax your car if there's any acid rain damage from Nippon

If it's a genuine 70,000 Km with Jap logs, everything is sweet: but if there's no logs that you can trust, you might think about changing timing belt/water pump.

as per your technical questions:

* Oil capacity is 4.5L for Rb25DE and DET for oil + oil filter change...

* as for oil pressure.. according to workshop manual, it depends on your Revs.

For Rb25DE 2000Rpm is 3.3 and 6000rpm is 5.3

for Rb25det 2000rpm is 3.5 and 6000rpm is 5.6

so what your displaying sounds about right for regular driving.

ill get back to you on the exact Oil temperature, shortly....

oil pressure sounds the same as mine. at first it is over 4 until the car gets to operating temps.

and as for the tips for keeping it in shape for a daily id say just service it regulary and only use the best fuel and it should be fine.

    • It's almost certainly a reluctor generating an "AC" waveform. No, ECUs don't generally read those - they're usually set up for PWM square wave 0-5v stuff.

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
