Don't know what lens I should get..

I want to spend between $1-2k

I would like some thing that takes really good shots in low light or at night.

or

Some thing that is really good for landscape

or

some sort of fish eye..

any suggestions?

(for canon 40D)

Canon 50mm f1.4 PLUS canon 85 mm f1.8 :D

OR canon 17-55 f2.8

Some thing that is really good for landscape

canon 10-22mm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or even my sigma does quite well.. sigma 17-70mm

Or how about the canon 17-40L f4

some sort of fish eye

Just remember you wont get the full effect from a fish eye lens due to a 1.6x crop factor.

Best bet is to go full frame..

Dont bother looking into the canon 15mm fish eye.. you will be disappointed on your 40d.

Get either the sigma 8mm or sigma 10mm (however im not to sure the price on these two lens)

Everything else i have listed is between 1-2k :thumbsup:

Landscapes – 10-22mm or the Sigma 10-20. Both have comparable IQ and around the same price. If you can afford and want too, I suggest getting the Tokina 12-24. This has a little bit better IQ than the lenses above, but is a little more pricey. Also, depends on how you take landscape shots, whether you just aim, focus and fire away, or you use Hyperfocal Distancing for sharpness front to back.

General Purpose use – Canon 17-55 2.8. For a crop camera, this is the best lens you can get. Pretty much equivalent to the 24-70L. IQ is comparable, sharpness corner to corner, no softness at all! I had a copy, they are great. Just be wary, that the build quality is not that great, the IS is a bit noisy and it is known to gather a lot of dust if not well treated. Has glass which is L standards.

Lens you must own – 70-200 2.8 IS. No doubt about it. Fantastic lens. People often complain that they don’t like the bulk or it is too heavy, but personally I find it is a perfect lens. Great for low light shots, great for portrait/candid shots, you can use a 1.4x TC as well as a 2x TC and still AF (f/5.6 with the 2x) although IQ drops with the 2x TC. This is a need for any photographers bag. Although this usually fetches for ~$2K used, you will not be disappointed. Otherwise, a f/4 IS (Sharpest zoom lens in canon’s line-up).

Fisheye – Don’t even bother, wait until you go full frame. Otherwise, maybe just buy a 10-20 or 10-22 and just use it at 10mm if it will be sufficient enough. Have you ever used a lens at 10mm? It is wiiiiddee.

Low light photography – Depends how low light you mean. Can you take a tripod for long exposures?? The DOF at 1.2-1.4 is razor thin and EXTREMELY hard to keep in focus and get the right DOF. This takes practice. I think the 85 1.8 is an extremely good lens, but on a crop camera this is quite a long lens. I would suggest Sigma 30 1.4. Great lens.

They are my recommendation for your 40D :O

$800, it includes the lens petal and canon soft case. No box as I discarded it when I moved house. Lens is in perfect, mint condition with no marks or imperfections.

      @Murray_Calavera iam just considering options 🙂 of course it is very expensive so that why i ask here 🙂  @joshuaho96 I looked at that GCG hybrid(i remember looking at it few weeks before) So this is "that" hybrid where i send them my turbo and they upgrade the inside to Garrett stuff and then they send it back. It cost around 1200-1300 USD which is FAR cheaper than the HKS and it is what iam looking for(i just do not have experience like this...to send something off to "upgrade" ) @tylink720 that is like 150 USD turbo no? 😄 I dont think i have the "ease on my mind" with this kind of turbo.       It's funny, as Ive seen plenty of people use them in cheap builds on YT. And they actually go okay, even though a lot of other maxspeedingrods stuff is terrible. Those turbos seem reliable enough, the only part being, a good quality turbo that is "identical" to it, will out perform it day in and day out. In both a lower boost threshold, and the ability to flow more air at the same boost pressure. As a cheap cheap replacement, not a terrible choice. For cheap and shouldn't blow in a day, not terrible (like other eBay/Temu turbos) for low cost and still decent performance, that's where the question comes in to play from the results I've seen. I'd actually find it hilarious to buy one, and strap it to a paddock basher or some other cheap as POS originally NA car, and send it to the moon!

      The maxpeedingrods turbo is cheap and bolts on to stock parts. I think you just need a bigger silicone coupler for the intake. Its a cheap china turbo, but it's been running on mine for almost 3 years at 16-19 psi.
