Best Air Intake & Setting Boots On Profec B-spec Ii

hey guys Ive heard a few ideas thrown around about cold air intake and ive came up with a few ideas but would like to know everyone's opinion or other ideas on this? my r33 currently has a after market pod which I'm guessing would suck up a decent amount of heat, thus causing the cooler to work harder then it needs to.

1. I'm considering buying a stock air box whacking a k&n filter in and cutting a hole in the bottom and feeding some hose down low in the front which would get a nice flow of cold air.

2. leave the pod and buy/make a custom box to decease heat that gets to the filter and also run something to the front to feed the box with cold air.

also I'm new to the whole turbo scene and have been trying to hunt down a way that's best to set my boost controller so i know I'm not going to do damage to my turbo, im using a PRofec B-spec II which reads in percentage. Am i best to get someone to fiddle with it and monitor the boost guage while im driving and set it off the bar reading of my gauge

? if so does 8 psi for lo and 12 psi for hi sound good ?

ive been told that i should leave the stock airbox because its a good set up, so maybe just change the filter

dont cut a hole in the bottom of the air box . thats where the filtered air is . if you do that un filtered air will enter the engine
