My mate is about to buy a Skyline 1992 gts-t, and we are goin to fly 2500km to pick it up and then drive it home (ROAD TRIP ). Now we both know a bit about cars and shit but dont know a lot about turbo'd cars or skylines. We are wondering what you guys think about the following and if this car is really worth the $19000. The mods include:

5 spoke 18"inch mak sting rims with Pirelli's all round (235's on the rear

and i think 225's on front)

Lowered 3" at front and 2.5" rear

Full GT-R Bodykit

3'1/2inch Jun bl exhuast straight through off turbo with flanges so a cat

can be fittied and taken out anytime

GT-R Front mount intercooler

Exterme multi-puck centre sprung cushion button heavy duty racing clutch

GT-R 400hp rated Fuel pump

HKS superflow pod filter

blow off valve

Turbosmart adjustable boost controller

Nizmo front and back strut braces

Apexi electronic rev/speed meter

Split fire boost gauge

full sony/alpine stereo with 10 stacker (tweeters, crossovers, splits and

6x9's)

Full Cheetah Alarm system and immobiliser.

Now as I said we dont know much about turbo's and was wondering if you guys and girls could tell us some of the things to look out for. As I said we both know some stuff about cars like what to check to see if it has been in accident and stuff like that but next to nothing about the turbo side of things.

Is the $19000 a good price for the car.

It has 85000 Kms on the clock

Also what are the chances of getting this thing to pass a blue slip, as it is SA registered.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The RTA failed a mate of mine for his exhaust (aftrermaket) and Pod filter....

So he needs to find a air box and fit a standard exhaust... to get the blue slip.

I'd talk to the RTA about what you want to do in regards to rego and see what they say. I'd hate to see you /your mate buy the car get it here then not be able to register it.

The seller said he has some stock parts to go with the car as he just cleared a defect on it and is losing his licence so he is selling the car. We will find out what stock parts he actually has as like you said I/we dont wanna see him spend $19000 and then not be able to rego it.

i'd get a mechanic to look over it...even if you get the owner to take it to a workshop before you get there (and tell him you'll pay for it). Just for a bit of piece of mind.. (but that's just me)..

have fun on your road trip !! :P

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
