Hi Guys,

I know ive gone about this the wrong way but I found the turbo I wanted pretty cheap (HKS 3037 Pro s) so I grabbed it, so now I have no money to buy the programmable ECU I was saving for :headspin:

My problem is, once I finish installing the new turbo im not sure what I should do to get a bit more hp but without letting it lean out heaps and detonate and all the other bad stuff that goes with it :flamed: until I can afford to buy a aftermarket ECU and injectors etc. The mods currently are a large FMIC, pod, full 3" exhaust, MINES ECU(came with that from Japan) and running about 10psi, and with that set-up I was running about 190-200rwkw. So at that power the fuel pump would be not far off from being maxed out, right???

So a fuel pump is first, I was thinking a bosch 044?

Now what should I do from here, my thoughts were to get a rising rate fuel regulator and run only lowish boost 8-10psi?

but someone told me I could clamp off the fuel return line to feed the injectors more fuel, but wouldn’t that make the car run like shit down low? Could you rig up some sort of boost solenoid to shut off return line when on boost?

Or add an injector or two running off a sub injector controller?

What would be best or does anybody have a better idea?

As you can tell im not a mechanic, but I am learning. I like to do as much work myself as I can, so your help would be much appreciated :D

Thanks

Sorry about it being so long

Hi ....luke, Mines ECU's are notoriously rich and retarded. So it would be be worthwhile fitting it all up and going along to your local dyno shop and having the A/F ratios measured. You may well find it is OK, not perfect, not producing maximum power, but just OK. On the dyno gradually increase the boost until you start to see some detonation or leaness, knock it back a bit on the boost and it will be OK until you can afford a Power FC.

Clamp of the fuel return line, shoot the person that told you that.

Stick the 044 in the tank before you go to the dyno, as above.

Extra injectors, controllers, YUCK. Save up for the Power FC.

Hope that helps

Thanks sydneykid thats put my mind at ease. I did not really like the idea of an extra injector either. would an adjustable fuel reg help get a few more kw or is standard one good enough to do the job? Ill need one when upgrade ECU anyhow, wont I? or not until I do the injectors

Ill slap the guy that told me about the return line tomorrow when I see him :slap:

if you install a 044 pump you will also want a higher flowing fuel reg. ive been told before the standard regulator cant handle the flow produced by the 044 pump which then make the pressure run high at low fuel ussage then when high fuel ussage return to the pressure set.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
