Hey Guys,

Miss owning a Skyline and thinking of getting back into one. I'm thinking about getting a 1998 R33 GTR and would like to know what to look out for during the search process. I want one in great condition.

What the common faults are and what kind of tests you would recommend done. I know of the compression test is one of the must do test besides the usual.

Anyways if you have a moment to reply any insight would be great.

Cheers

racv vehicle inspection

nuff sed

I was thinking of a vehicle inspection company, but been advised many are not experienced in inspecting used imported forced induction vehicles. Not to sure how much truth there is in this.

Once you've decided on one you want. Get it checked out by a reputable workshop (check your State's reputable workshop sticky, each state has one on here) that has experience with Skylines, as you don't want to buy a GTR only to find the 4WD system is rooted, or the engine is in dire need of a rebuild, or one of the stock turbos are missing their ceramic exhaust wheel, or HICAS is screwed etc.

there is nothing wrong with racv, theyre quite good, why would you pick a company your not sure of over racv? they give you a full report, just like every other company, sept racv has alot more experience, and if they screw it up, your insured because they have a guarentee or something on the report

In in NSW, there is no RACV here. Will take the advise of looking at the reputable workshops.

    • Hey Kaz, Unfortunately I am not at home currently and wont be for a few more months so I do not have access to my files or CAD. And at this point I prefer to keep the files to myself as I want to potentially make a few more pairs and see if they will sell within the EU before openly marketing them. But the way it's shaped and how small it is, I don't think you can fit both an indicator and a fog light onto the same surround, unless they were very small LED-type clusters.
    • I’ve just installed a Uniclutch sport into my R32. I’ve been blown away by it… it drives like a stock Toyota Corolla. It doesn’t make sense to me that a performance clutch can drive this well. I was about to pull the trigger on a Nismo Coppermix twin plate when I discovered the Uniclutch and decided to give that a shot instead. They’ve changed the game and I couldn’t be happier.    I was previously using an Extreme cushioned button clutch with lightened flywheel. I’m still using the same lightened flywheel with the Uniclutch.
    • Mmmm no, that's a white series 2 R33 GTS-t
    • Oh and.... "no bubble on the dash" ---> immediate no mod status.
    • To be Frank (always liked that name), I reckon this is a better idea. I'm an R32 man from day 1 and the really good surviving examples that are still in stock form should stay that way. Let ye conscience guide you my son 🙂
