hey skyline lovers,

purchased a drift electronic rpm gauge just trying to find my tach signal i have flush mounted my gauge and now trying to find the tach signal from my coil ive unscrewed the allen key bolts on top of the head and am now stuck with the signal wire and finding my leading coil

can anyone please shed some light on this or will i have to wire it up to my ecu somehow

this is a head case and a half i really am starting to get pissed off haha,

tryed attaching my tach signal on my digital rpm gauge to the yellow wire with the blue stripe after i stripped it behind the dials, also tryed the yellow and the green striped wire and just connected the + and the - to a battery that i got lying around, started the car and no luck...

the guy at autobahn said i have to connect it to my leading coil im in a real pickle at the moment my whole dash is apart and from 7p.m-2a.m ive been trying to sort this motherf*%$#r out and it wont work... will i need to connect it closer to my ecu or have i got the wrong wires completely? :):)

Whats wrong with the awesome tacho next to the speedo that came form factory??? Get a shift light, preferrably one of the pencil types that don't stick out like dogs balls and then you'll be set...

hey,

the rpm gauge that i currently have is flush mounted in my old cluster it has a inbuilt shift light about the diameter of a pencil if not smaller i believe this one looks 10x better i was just wondering if anyone could help with the wiring and how to connect this electronic rpm gauge to which signal wire if not wires

cheers chris

had it connected to pin 7 (yellow with blue stripe wire) behind the cluster and temp to a + and - on a battery i got lying around and no rpm reading

will it have to be conencted closer to my ecu for a rpm reading?

thankyou for everyones time chris

found a interesting thread that makes me think i have the wrong signal wire could it be pin 7? which i allready have tryed behind the dash cluster or could it be pin 53 "which is the Vehicle Speed Sensor signal is basically engine rpm's"i have read to connect it closer to my ecu for a reading but i would have thought if i have the yellow and blue striped wire (pin 7) behind my cluster i should get a reading the gauge is electronic/digital if that makes a difference?

here is the thread anyways http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Rp...ed#entry4042455

was reading over a thread a while ago and im not sure but dose anybody think i might have to attach a resistor and a tacho booster i have no signal from pin 7 which i connected behind the dash cluster which is the yellow with blue striped wire i will re-connect it tomorrow to pin 7 from my ecu

any ideas/thoughts much appreciated chris

its a multi cylinder gauge can be switched once the power is fed to it with a click of a button...

went out today and purchased a signal booster for my ecu for $160 as i was told that is my problem as the current coming from the ecu is only 5-7v and the tacho is 12v when i power it to a battery it lights up/illuminates but when the signal wire is connected to pin 7 no rpm reading once the car is running and the gauge is set for 6cl mode

    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
