In melbourne so pretty spoilt for tuner choice actually :ermm:

Not really a concern unless it blows up ..And i have no clue ,so learning one will be as easy as learning the other

Real concern is which is the better ECU, or are they both capable units..If they are both as good as each other would probably rather get the new one as Scott said so im not relying on s/h parts..

(which is kind of hypocritical as everything in my car is s/h :D )

Is the e420 a lemon compared to PFC and the new e1280 or is it simply not as good. or does nobody really know cause nobody wants to try it...I mean its only got handle a bigger turbo and injectors, not alot really

Its not a lemon, its just not as nice a hardware package as the e1280, im still out to town on the e420 connectors but we still tune alot of e420's in 4age's and we have done a turbo mx5 with one never had any issues other than the connectors on some older ones.

my preferences are e1280s first, pfc second, e420 third and nistune last in this application. If it was a R34 or any other nissan nistune would be top choice for your mods.

As it turns out adaptronic is 1250 with loom and map, which isnt under a grand at all :D

So not only is the PFC tried and tested its cheaper too... :P

And i really cant find any complaints about it, whereas I've found a few on the others..

Problem solved :P

For a 6 cylinder engine the e420 is not ideal because it only does sequential injection and ignition for 4 cylinders. you have to run 6 cylinders with waste spark and semi sequential injection (which means that 2 or 3 of your cylinders will get fuel when the intake valve is CLOSED, this is inefficient).

I would never go an ECU that didn't have at least 6 ignition and 6 injector drivers on an RB. PFC all the way.

Looked into nistune but on an R33 it's too much jerking around. The only thing I don't like about PFC is no knock retard. a minor issue but something i wish it had.

Thanx

So thats what it means, i kept reading it but had no idea what it meant exactly. Seems crazy..

Does that mean it would run fine as a v8 ecu?

    • Oh, also, forgot to add these photos I believe.
    • Thought i'd update on this. I was able to get in contact with Craig Lieberman and later on Darryl Alison (owner of Kaizo Industries). Darryl was able to help me verify that my car was in fact one of theirs and is helping me find more info on mine !
    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
