How long does a CTEK one take to charge a fully flat battery?

Can it charge from 100% dead flat?

I bought a charger for about $65, from supercheap auto, seems to go ok but has a very hard time charging from flat.

thats all dependant on what size you get. if its just to maintain you can get a 1Amp or a 4Amp that will still charge flat batteries they just take longer.

expensive chargers are like everything in life the work better. a normal charger just puts current in untill it decides its full. these more expensive ones as the battery gets around 80-90% full they turn the current up and down to cycle the battery to 100% charged. very few chargers will do that.

How much are they? and is there a specific one for R35s?

samll ones start around $150 i thinkl. never had to price on at retail. any decent auto electrical place can get one and they will also be able to advise the best size and option for you. im not sure where you can get them normaly. maybe repco or bursons?

It is more dependent on the quality and age of the battery, not so much the quality of the charger that determines if you can recharge a battery from fully dead.

And yes the good quality chargers alter the current as it nears full. The Best recharger is to take the car out for a drive.... why buy a car if you don't use it enough to keep the battery running?

Would the battery be ok after say 3 weeks without a charger? I am going aboard for 3 weeks.

your battery will be fine for a year if you disconnect it from the car.

Do r35's have a battery switch like other exotics have instead of having to disconnect the battery terminals?

My battery goes flat within a week. Pretty sure the alarm is draining it, tried looking for the current leak, gave up. It no longer is a daily driver (Gf's car and motorbike) so it doesn't bother me that it sits on the trickle charger.

Trickle chargers also extend a batteries life so it's good for them. Better than just sitting there.

Also i'll be working on a FIFO roster soon so I wanted the trickle charger for that :P

The GT-R has quite clever power management systems so it pretty much shuts down everything thats not required for maintenance of data etc after 30 mins or so. I left it for 3 weeks and it cranked just like when I left it.

I have a Ctek and found it to be very good, it even can let you know if the battery is bad and needs replacement.

And it can do a battery recondition option to try and decalcify it (only the nonsealed batts) to extend its life

YUp in your case it makes sense as it isn't a daily and r33's are pretty much shit house with their power management with alarms because they have the tiniest battery in their boot (which i'm sure you are well aware of).

Still a shame you can't take it out more often though :)

Honestly I love the fact it aint a daily driver any more :) Makes me enjoy driving it so much more and all the little things don't bother me that used to when it was a daily driver. Also means I can drive it a bit harder knowing that if something breaks I don't need it to take me to work/uni etc the next day.

I'll buy a nice euro car once I start earning some proper money as a "daily" and just keep the Skyline as a weekend toy.

Who says you should only have one toy any way, the more the better! I'm sure I don't need to tell you that judging by your "car list" lol.

Thanks fungoolie, is your car a daily or weekend only? cos I drive mine twice a week, don't know if the charge could last 3 weeks.

    • Thought i'd update on this. I was able to get in contact with Craig Lieberman and later on Darryl Alison (owner of Kaizo Industries). Darryl was able to help me verify that my car was in fact one of theirs and is helping me find more info on mine !
    • There's restrictor pills in the stock boost control hoses. That's how they set the amount that was bled off and hence the "high" boost setting. The usual mod in the day was to remove it and send the "high" boost setting up to about 14 psi.
    • Thanks Duncan, that's the best info I've read. Furthermore after learning about the PCM programming side controlling the factory boost solenoid, the purpose of the solenoid is to "bleed" boost when pin 25 is earthed, thus allowing spring pressure in the wastegate actuator to overcome diaphragm boost pressure, thus closing or reducing the position of the wastegate flap creating more boost as the turbo is able to spin faster. It's pretty cool to see a designated Pill to do exactly this, would have liked to have seen it with a tiny filter over the end for those moments in vacuum.  The constant bleed pill has now been removed completely from the system and solenoid boost control has been restored once again.   Case closed 😂
    • The wideband reading is meaningless if it's not running. Why are you using shitty old sidefeeds on any engine, let alone a Neo? What manifold and fuel rail are you using to achieve that? Beyond that, can't help you with AEM stuff as I've never been their ECU/CAS combo.
