After changing my cpu the old paste has become a bit worn out (only half the cpu is covered in a thin layer now) idle temp is around 40 degrees where it should be 25-30.

Ive checked MSY which has lots listed on the website but they never have the paste in stock, also checked on centrecom, scorpion, pcws websites and none of them have thermal paste listed.

All ive found is this. http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?I...mp;form=KEYWORD

I know its only $7 but still i want something good on my cpu, dont wanna have to clean it off to replace it and reseat the cooler because it may be crap. Anyone used this or know where I can find some good paste?

Just go to PC Case Gear

www.pccasegear.com

You can order online and then go pickup, or just have it delivered.

This is the best on the market at present far as i know:

pc case gear FTW

I usually use Arctic Silver cause we have a whole bunch of it here at work.

TBH though it's more about how you apply the paste (spread a thin layer evenly on the cpu rather than making blobs) than the actual content of the paste itself.

Thanks, Would rather an easy pick up without having to order, Did you know anywhere else with it available instantly? but those temp results look pretty good. Have you tried it yourself?

I use that Termal paste myself on all the builds i do for people, my own E8400 runs 4.3ghz day in/day out and i think idles around 35 degrees with a reasonable voltage behind it :P

Go down to Scorp Tech or something (just google, plenty of PC places in Melb), but you'll usually pay a bit more again, and they tend not to have the diversity.

For PCCG, you order online and its generally ready within a couple hours anyway mate. So order, go get some lunch and by the time your done it'll be ready to collect :D

I got impatient and went to centrecom and got some Deepcool z5, Couldnt find any reviews for it and dont know why i bought it, but it works good :P I thought if i ordered it I would be waiting for around a week. Oh well still happy with this stuff for $12 3g tube. Was hard to squirt the blob in the middle, little stringy bits stretched as i took the syringe away. So i ended up doing the spread technique over the blob.

Cpu is overclocked to 3.8ghz now and running at pretty much the same temps with a slight bump from 1.34v to 1.38v 30 degree idle then upto 42 while playing starcraft 2 4v4 lol. Havnt given it a propper prime test yet though.

I ain't CPU limited on any game... so struggling for a reason to upgrade at the moment given i need cash for other endeavours :D

Hottest I get to in 4v4 is around 50c :P

I suspect though my cooler might not be mounted all that good since my last dust cleanout

ahh you're not playing the right games then mang! 4 cores FTW

should get into overclocking mine, but now I'm lazy and CBF lugging it to work again to start pulling apart n replacing stuff in

lol... SC2 doesnt use a lot of CPU overall, only during load.

Its more ram intensive.

Plus most other games i play seem fine, hardly ANY games are multi core

I think my cpu AM3 965 tops out around the 4.0-4.1 mark. Most people on the overclockers forum stopped at 4.0ghz. Is yours water cooled? 4.3ghz is massive for the 8400 lol.

Just on air :)

lapped the CPU as well though, that saw a 8 degree drop under load which was awesome.

4ghz stable :P 55max during prime. cheapo coolermaster 212+ and my crappy Deepcool z5 paste was good enough  Wonder why lots of people are struggling to get 4ghz with there $120 heatsinks and perfectly applied thermal paste. I just put in 20x200 and 1.45v and I'ts happy lol.

    • Some of the filler.   Also if I look under the top flap of metal it starts looking good quite close to the edge. I get the feeling it doesn't go much further.
    • So, I finally started digging at the bit of my roof that was cracking and bulging a bit. Well, it was just thick filler that was covering some pretty bad rust. I didn't find the edges, I was too bummed to keep going.  There are a few holes as you can see. There was just so much filler but looks like no attempt under the filler to prime or use rust converter, just slapped filler on exposed rust.  Anyway, I'm going to take the windshield out and find the edges. I'd love to fix this myself as I'm pretty sure it'll be expensive to get done properly. I was thinking I could just get a cut piece from another E39 and just weld it in place as it would be the right size and shape.  Thoughts?
    • This is the territory of the "Stage 1/2/3 Golf GTI/R" or otherwise off the shelf tune with (relative to before) minor mods. It's easier now. Downpipe and Tune and boom, big increases. Stage 1 OEM+ is where it's at. This is where the niche evolved into and it's really easy to see why. It's rare to even NEED to consider changing turbos or going to aftermarket ECU's or building bottom ends for more power. Stage 1-2-3 will get you a LONG WAY. Civic Type R turbo GR Yaris/Corolla Anything with B58 (MKV Supra/x40i) Anything BMW in General Anything Audi in General Any turbo AMG RenaultSport Turbo offerings Korean Elantra N/I30N Ecoboost Mustangs Focus RS? List goes on. I would argue in the future it won't even need to go on... M3P is pretty rapid out of the box...
    • There is a way, but it's not with the same cars. You need to find the same vintage of car, that we had. Realistically, that was an affordable car with aftermarket parts around. So what people need to find is a car that had a decent base in its day, and can be modified. They're looking for a car year make of 2010 to 2015 really... Aus could have done it if Holden didn't fold as V8 commodores were cheap, and if Ford didn't get expensive thanks to COVID, then you could cheaply play with FG Barras. Realistically, those are just a bit heavier, four door skylines. I'm sure the US and UK have similar cars they could find.
    • Haha I do that.. thats when it chirps..The bit point for me is almost non-existent. Otherwise I stall it. But yes, in terms of performance, the clutch is solid af.
