I don't understand what's going on here

the man just wants his exhaust tips enlongated and then there's people saying get a full new exhaust?

As long as no mufflers are touched, making exhaust tips longer will make minute difference, if any to the sound of the exhaust.

Am i correct to assume stock exhaust = quiet? if so, will make no difference to sound. Only as long as the mufflers are left as is and just the last pipes are extended.

You've never seen a sexy Hyundai or Honda with a cannon have you? Of course the tip makes a difference to sound, it sounds terrible! The tip of the exhaust on a stock exhaust is a type of muffler, if you change that muffler without changing the exhaust it sounds like absolute shite! Victor said he wants to change the tips, hence going to sound terrible. You can't get aftermarket tips for cheap that are going to sound good, high quality mufflers are expensive. If you're going to spend that money getting a tip welded on and your exhaust extended, you might as well go whole hog and get an amazing quality exhaust that sounds like Pamela Anderson on full scream.

only wants the extend it, what, an inch, no difference, if you don't want a full exhaust(Kermit is the man on that one), just buy the tip you want, go to a small exhaust shop, and ask them to put it on, if it takes them more then 10 mins, there's something wrong. shouldn't cost much to do. Either that or make friends with a welder :D

A++++++++++++++ for Kermit, what a fkn champ :D such sexy welds and nice sound to boot

+1 for Kermit!!!! I got my Exhaust repaired when he saw a fault for it and it was only minor n he did it for free as it was not the original job Getting done. Got a Straight pipe now with a Cannon @ da back.. Crackly Deep Sound :D

Ok. Thanks, mate.

I will keep that in mind. :)

By the way, do you live or work around Maddington area? I saw twice silver Stagea about 5:40pm this week coming out of one of the street.

that may be me, are you sure it wasnt white?

Ok.

Sorry guys. I am abit confused now, with some saying crap sound and some no difference. I probably call Kermit on this before deciding on it.

Yes, I just want to extend an inch and maybe, change the tips to abit bigger stainless steel type. I can asure if Kermit also agree that it will sound crap, I won't do it. I rather save up and get a full system.

I am not after any sound or power improvement as I only drive it on weekends for relaxing cruise. Plus, if I get asked by an offier what exhaust system I have, I don't want to say it's aftermarket at this stage.

Thanks, guys for all the replies. I learn new things everytime on SAU. :)

Neither :)

Ok.

I just thought of asking because I've seen it twice already.

that may be me, are you sure it wasnt white?

I am sure it's silver. A gentleman with beard driving it.

I think I've already seen you around sometimes. Your's white that goes around Nicholson Rd? :)

He never said he wanted a CANON on it just an extension to clear his rear bar which any exhaust shop or kermit could do in 5 minutes thats why i say get off ya arse and do it as it won't make any difference to the sound

That is correct. :)

Thanks, guys. I am not in a hurry to do this, but will post up asap.

put up pics of how it is atm!

if it sits in i say extend it as cheap as you can to suit your body kit. just get it cut from behind ur muffler/before ur cat and extended with its current width pipe -ie 2.5" etc

i saw a *sigh* 2 door rice car yesterday i cant remember what it was but it was like a mighty boy equivelant in a car, it was fully kitted up and the rear bar was made for twin exhaust but he only had a single! looked so stupid!

Fair enough, my mistake. I thought when you said you wanted to put a stainless or chrome tip on it you meant more than just extending the stock exhaust. Yeh if all you want to do is extend the pipe a little bit so the exhaust sits further out then it won't make a difference to sound.

That's all right, Martin. My mistake as well, I should have made it clearer.

I was busy last night with friends. Hopefully, I will post the photo up tonight.

    • Nah. You need 2x taps for anything that you cannot pass the tap all the way through. And even then, there's a point in response to the above which I will come back to. The 2x taps are 1x tapered for starting, and 1x plug tap for working to the bottom of blind holes. That block's port is effectively a blind hole from the perspective of the tap. The tapered tap/tapered thread response. You don't ever leave a female hole tapered. They are supposed to be parallel, hence the wide section of a tapered tap being parallel, the existince of plug taps, etc. The male is tapered so that it will eventually get too fat for the female thread, and yes, there is some risk if the tapped length of the female hole doesn't offer enough threads, that it will not lock up very nicely. But you can always buzz off the extra length on the male thread, and the tape is very good at adding bulk to the joint.
    • Nice....looking forward to that update
    • Neg, the top one is actually for the front. The sizes are 18x10.5 +18 and 18x11 +32.   I measured many times but I'm sure I'll have problems as this is the thread for problems.
    • Just one thing; tapping tapered threads is tricky. Taps are always tapered and you would generally run it as far as you can, but with a tapered thread you have to stop much sooner otherwise the wide part of the taper will run in too far and you will have to thread the sensor in too far too as well (possible that it will never make a good seal) BTW nice wide wheels, I guess the top one is for the back!
    • Welp, good to know. Will have to wait awhile until steady hands with drills and taps are available. In other news, these just arrived! I will weigh them for posterity. Edit: 11kg each (or 10.9/11.1 depending on what my scale decides over multiple tests, the 18x11 don't seem to weigh noticeably any more than 10.5)
