it's a NA gts4. anything over 170kmh in most NA low power, small displacement engined cars and they will take a while to accelerate. don't let the exagerted acceleration by people in here make you think your car is slower than what it should be.

I've hot around i'm guessing high 190 speeds in my N/A 5th gear just bogs out prob sitting around 5-6k

1st, 2nd, 3rd gear have "great" pickup but 4th, 5th just bog down

Did that make any sense

For the record i drive a s1 33 with a s2 engine

Right I hit the limiter, or at the very least there was a definite stop to acceleration and id been going up past my 180km/hr speedo for a bit. What exactly is the cut off speed? preety interested to find out how fast it worked out to be.

And after actually reading through the post ive now hit page 2 and realised the answer is within, thank you for your knowledge. I want to go faster but I dont want to cut the limiter and risk engine going bye bye. So i think Ill continue saving up for turbo and do it right :P

our old RB 30 powered Phatrol does almost 130 in third......why?? who knows. gearing is a funny art i will never understand. all i know is i like em short

that's not that tall.

My old falcon would do 100mph in 3rd at 5500rpm lol

My AU2 Auto would do 110km/h in 1st!

how many speed gearbox in the au? and what are you reving it to? father in laws AU only does about 70 in first (about the same as my vt. they'll both do about 120kmh in second.

or is the au a v8? they run a taller diff, but not that much taller (3.08 vs 3.23)

i think your speedo may be a fair bit out then. just checked the gear ratios and the max speed you should get out of it is about 90kmh (check my calculations against my commodore gearing and it was pretty much right).

they have a VERY long first gear in the AU's...unless it had the 2.92:1 diff ratio? XR6 autos had the 3.23:1 and the manuals 3.45:1

mind you this is going back many a beer now,

yeah my guess is that it had the taller diff ratio. puts it in persepctive for all the NA import fanbois who like to brag about beating commodores and falcons, when first gear is as tall as second gear in a skyline. try launching a skyline in 2nd gear and then see how it compares to the aussie cars.

Thats exactly it man, My auto NA 33 (dont flame, I know its not a rocket already lol) does about 60 in first, if i were to launch in second (which tops out at around 105 - 110) it would be a very slow embarrasing trip to 100kmph and would get beaten by bikes let alone an AU falcon :).

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
