R35 + Cobb Accessport + Godzilla Motorsport

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd give some real world data on the Cobb AccessPORT on an otherwise stock standard R35.

I installed the AccessPORT and reflashed the ECU with the delivered stage 1 ECU map, stage 1 TCM map and did a clutch re-learn. The effect was immediately noticeable. The gearbox lost some of its jerkiness from standstill. The launch RPM is now 3300rpm just like it says on the box. The first impressions from the seat of the pants is the engine now pulls much stronger.

I spent some time with Mark at Godzilla Motorsport on the dyno and the results were interesting.

With the stock tune the R35 made 391hp (~293kw) at all four wheels with boost starting at around 12psi and tapering off to just under 11psi.

With the delivered stage 1 map the R35 made 401hp (~300kw) at all four wheels with boost starting at just under 14psi and tapering off to around 12psi. That is a pretty modest gain, a lot less than the Cobb claimed 63hp peak gain, and doesn't explain the perceived performance gain.

The real gains were the 50hp+ increase across the middle of the rev range! 40hp gain (18% increase) at 3500rpm, 50hp gain (13% increase) at 4500rpm, tapering off the 10hp gains in the top end. More power where it counts most in a daily driven, part time circuit car. Definitely a worthwhile modification on any R35.

Keep in mind the Cobb AccessPORT is the only modification. Adding an exhaust and/or intake modifications will probably yield higher peak gains.

Godzilla Motorsport is now an authorised Cobb Tuning dealer meaning Mark has access to the full catalogue of Cobb parts. More importantly, Mark also has the AccessTUNER Pro software meaning he can go that step further than reselling/installing purchased tunes, and can do custom tuning work.

The next step is to do some custom tuning and see where the delivered Cobb maps can be optimised further and what gains can be had. I'll post there results when I have them.

    • Yep, the closest base tune available was for the GTT, I went with that and made all the logical changes I could find to convert it to Naturally Aspirated. It will rev fine in Neutral to redline but it will be cutting nearly 50% fuel the whole way.  If I let it tune the fuel map to start with that much less fuel it wont run right and has a hard time applying corrections.  These 50% cuts are with a fuel map already about half of what the GTT tune had.  I was having a whole lot of bogging when applying any throttle but seem to have fixed that for no load situations with very aggressive transient throttle settings. I made the corrections to my injectors with data I found for them online, FBCJC100 flowing 306cc.  I'll have to look to see if I can find the Cam section. I have the Bosch 4.9 from Haltech. My manifold pressure when watching it live is always in -5.9 psi/inHg
    • Hi My Tokico BM50 Brake master cylinder has a leak from the hole between the two outlets (M10x1) for brake pipes, I have attached a photo. Can anyone tell me what that hole is and what has failed to allow brake fluid to escape from it, I have looked on line and asked questions on UK forums but can not find the answer, if anyone can enlighten me I would be most grateful.
    • It will be a software setting. I don't believe many on here ever used AEM. And they're now a discontinued product, that's really hard to find any easy answers on. If it were Link or Haltech, someone would be able to just send you a ECU file though.
    • Yes sir am asking is there possible way from aem tuner from wiring pins
    • Have you checked cam to crank timing and confirmed balancer marks are correct?
