Teiresias
Hi all. Not sure if this exactly the right spot for this topic but it seemed closest. Took me 3 weeks to damage my car. It's a 2001 R34 25GT auto coupe. Lost traction in the wet coming out of a corner. Fishtailed. Rear right got grip before the left. spun 180, went sideways into the gutter. Didn't hit a single thing, not a scratch on the car or on me. What's broken? (All right hand side) (Prices are reconed/second hand) Front lower control arm. - $165 Front rack & pinion. - $250 Rear lower control arm. -$220 Rear front upper control arm. -$165 Rear rack and pinion.- $440 If anyone can beat that, gimmie a shout PLEASE. I'm looking at $3k repair job parts included and I'm waiting for the rims to get back from being checked. Thanks, Teir. P.S. I'm in Melbourne. Teiresias
Found a few parts, but, dude has a wrecked gt-t. The rear steering/suspension is different to the 25gt isn't it? The front control arm should be fine but are the rear control arms compatible? If so that's $40 an arm compared to $165! Teiresias
jesus mate, you need to drive more carefully. that's a lot of bent bits at both ends. I was rather cautious as it was that night, I had been spinning the wheels on the way home just coming off the lights normally. I would have been doing i dunno, 40 going into the corner, 50 coming out. Any more coming into the corner and I would have been spinning before I got there as there's only about 30m of straight before the corner, and it's lights before that. But don't worry, the thought of driving in the wet scares the shit out of me still at the moment I can't remember half of it. I remember starting to fishtail, and finishing straight but on the grass. It was only after looking at the damage that i realized that i must have spun, impossible otherwise. I can't even remember my reaction it all happened so bloody fast. Duncan
well at least you will get a wheel alignment as part of fixing this...if there was something wrong it will be ok now....just take it easy! and do some motorkhanas or driver training days. Teiresias
yea, lol that's kinda part of the deal w getting my car back, i gotta do one of those defensive driving courses. Ey, have you ever heard of Bridgestone Playz? They're the tyres on the car and I'm trying to find out more about them but I can't find shit. Duncan
I've never heard of those tyres, and I have used a lot of different tyres. They are not sold in Australia by Bridgestone according to their website. I guess if the car was just complied they are the usual cheapest, crappy tyres they could put on....if you have another $1k (maybe not after this I guess) you should consider putting some good tyres on the car, it will make heaps of difference, particularly in the wet. I'd recommend Federal 595SS or Falken FK452 which are both good cheap street tyres BTW those prices look reasonable for retail, although instead of the rear steering rack you could just buy a HICAS lock bar and the rack ends on the side that are damaged. That would be more like 200 than 400. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/365498-wreckersreccomenations/#findComment-5832900 Share on other sites
Teiresias
I actually got a new quote today from SSS auto in Sydney, $200 for the rear rack. $100 for the rear upper and $150 for the rear lower. The only thing I'm missing at the moment is the front rack, need to find something cheaper. And yea, tyres are definitely changing at this stage, i don't care if i have to borrow money to do it, because i shouldn't have been spinning when i was. At the very least I think I'll get the back ones changed and get the front when i have more cash. possibly get the adrenaline RE001s. But if the ones you mentioned are good enough, w/e saves me money. But I'm not fussed. I don't want to skimp on tyres. Teiresias
Good news! Osaka Imports in knoxfield are awesome! Got all my parts (besides front ctrl arm) less than half the price of my original quotes and well under and other quotes i found, including SSS in the post above. Only thing left is to find something out about these bloody tyres! If the playz really are apart of the original problem I'll replace them. Otherwise I'll have to start looking at the car. Thinking about getting Adrenalins RE001, $230 ea from a place in carlton. Any advice? Are they better or worse than the Fedrals or the Falkens that Duncan mentioned?
