Hey kids.

My car is in at WA suspensions getting my lowered springs and camber pins installed at the moment.

Now I know that the stock shocks are gonna be close to bottomed out with these springs, it's gonna be a bumpier ride, so of course i'm gonna need to upgrade the shocks.

1) I've found Koni adjustable shocks for $1060 for a full set of 4 (!), then modify them for the lowered springs

2) or KYB non-adjustable shocks for approx $600 for a set of 4, then modify them for the lowered springs

3) modify the factory shocks.

Either way when I buy these, I'll need to get them modified to suit the lowered springs, My question is what's involved with that?

The guys at WA suspensions said I'll need to shorten the length of the body of the shocks to accommodate the springs, what exactly is involved with shortening the body of the shocks?

My car has McPherson struts up front, and multi link with struts at the rear FYI.

I'm doing all of this to avoid paying $2500+ for coilovers. There's a place in Malaysia that makes coilovers for my x-trail, but I can't justify spending $2500 on suspension when the car's never gonna see the track. All I want is a lowered ride height and a bit firmer of a ride, so as long as I can do that for under $2500 (considering I've already spent $580 on the springs), i'll be happy.

What are my options?

Thanks.

p.s. there's stuff all info around about this, as far as I can see, i'm the only one in the world to have lowered an x-trail this much without the use of coilovers...

    • I know people cry at the price of the Getrag 12-14k for a conversion now, but it really is a nice mid point. Not going to get change from 10k on a gearset installed.  $30k++ for sequential.   I know you run the risk of a damaged used one and parts are hard to get but as a street car gearbox its really hard to beat. If you enjoy a more traditional manual, its the choice no question.
