Hi Folks,

I had a loud rattle (sounded like two solid pieces of steel just touching while vibrating) from my steering column, so I removed the plastic cover to have a closer look, drove around a bit, it seems to have gone away and only happens now and then since. However, my horn now goes off at low speeds- like when I turn into a parking space. It does a series of short beeps, not quite full volume. I checked to see if there was a loose wire but couldn't see any. Anyone had this trouble, or know where I should be looking?

Cheers,

LOL how embarrasing, but yeah its a short somewhere, just look for worn insulation, probably going to have to back trace the wires from the horn button backwards.

i had a similar thing where my High beams used to randomly come on, this was on a barina tho, seemed to happen when i'm following a cop car pinch.gif

Thanks guys, yeah it's pretty embarrasing, went off at an intersection while I was waiting for people to cross, girlfriend finds it quite funny though. I have disconnected the horn now- it was a pretty loose male/female connection- but there was more than one wire connected with the same piece, so now my air bag light is staying on, plus I can't honk at the many annoying drivers! I'll check for obvious wear, then try and replace the wiring I guess. Hopefully I don't start honking any cop cars :)

Thanks for the replies.

Found the source of this problem and the loud vibration- There is a small but heavy piece of metal that is part of the steering wheel and is there to reduce vibration, it had broken off and was bumping into things. I just had it removed and didn't notice much difference in the vibration, though I have VERY stiff suspension to start with. I was told the whole wheel needs to be replaced if I wanted to have one as it is built in. You need to remove a few things to get to it. If anyone is interested I can post a pic.
