I had a search around the forums and cannot find anything that matches the problem/s I am having.

I have a stock R33 GT-R.

The car has started surging then hesitating while driving at constant speed. It is like a jerking motion. accelerates then cuts out.

One this happens the 4WD light comes on and stays on. This will go on for a little while then it drives normally, but the 4WD light stays on until I turn the car off. I have an alarm installed which also acts as the turbo timer.

If I turn the car off and let the turbo timer shut down the car the 4WD light goes away. However if I shut it straight down and then re start the 4WD light stays on.

This started the other day. This is the things I am thinking it may be:

  • I let the fuel get pretty low the other day which is when it started happening. Thought maybe the fuel pump may have picked up some junk out of the bottom of the tank?
  • AFM needs cleaning?
  • The car has pod filters which are like metal mesh (on it when I bought it) and thought maybe something is being sucked into the intake? I live in Canberra and there is a heap of pollen in the air.
  • Something to do with the alarm/turbo timer due to the light going away once I let it shut the car down?

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

my 32 does the jerky thing sometimes (feels like the handbrake is being pulled on for a split second) but 4wd light doesn't come on during driving. Only sometimes upon startup. I would suggest clean AFM's..

When the 4WD light is on go to the boot and look at the ECU in there, there is a L.E.D that flashes. If it flashes 7 times slowly and then follows with 5 fast then that's the throttle position sensor. Which i think it could be because my car did the exact same thing.
