The other morning got pulled over for my rear tints being to dark.

I always thought that all the sedans came with the privacy glass in the rear..

anyways they came out to 20% on the metre.

anyone else have problems with the tints....

Yeah, I thought it would be same too. Nearly all cars on road have privacy tint at back. Sounds like unfair judgement to me. Unless darker tint got put on in place of factory privacy tint.

My understanding is that FACTORY rear PRIVACY glass (any darkness) is ok under ADR (look at new Pajeros, XR5s etc).

You can't however tint the rear as dark as you want if the glass was clear to begin with so ALL of the windows have to comply (35% IIRC).

I know, abit strange that factory dark under the limit is fine but doing it yourself later is not allowed.

There are exceptions for older vehicles (I think pre-1993/4 could have dark all round).

You can get defected as long as the cop suspects your vehicle of not being roadworthy. They don't need to be right or know what they are talking about. Darker rears are only allowed IF your car comes with darker glass, not tint OR if it is a commercial vehicle. If it is privacy glass, explain it to the cop and show them. They will let you off usually.

I think that this is total BS they defect you not knowing wtf they are talking about then you have to go and pay, and take the time out of your day so ur not getting paid from work to go and clear it, i think that the police department should pay damages if the defect is proven to not actuly be a defect by the RTA i think this would stop alot of dick head cops.

i agree, i would ask them that they tell me exactly what my car is to prove they actually know whether its stock or not. Many will not know and you can then present the case of above..

    • An update regarding the registration with the DVLA I sent off the paperwork the day after I collected the car from the port, two weeks later it was all returned with a letter explaining they have rejected the application. This was because the cheque was £20 short for the road tax (I used a price list I found online). Nevermind it is what it is, it was sent back to them the following day with a new cheque. Fast forward another 2 weeks or so, I called them for an update to be told it had been rejected. Yesterday (16th September) I received the documents back along with another letter, this time it was because I didn't put an X in one box on the V750 (personalised number plate certificate), which declared that I had the rights to the personalised number plate. Why this wasn't mentioned in the first rejection letter, I don't know, but it could have saved this headache. The documents were sent back today, so fingers crossed third times a charm and it'll FINALLY be registered on the road just in time for the bad weather (woohoo!) To cheer myself up I lowered the front 25mm, was sick of seeing it sit like a monster truck. No idea how much clearance I'll have getting on and off the driveway, I'll worry about that when I can actually drive it
