I just recently install a Profec A, and from the moment i turned it on, the control/soleniod unit made a heep of wierd 'computer' and clicking sounds. After everything was setup up, the unit still makes these noises when the car is turned off but the ignition is on. It seems to me like the soleniods are constantly opening and closing! Is this supposed to happen? All my vacume hoses are setup correctly, and the controller itself is working fine at controlling boost?

Another query, does anyone have the Profec A instruction manual (pdf or other electronic form?) my email is [email protected], id apprecaite it!

Thanks for ur help!

Weq - I know that alot of solenoids will make a bit of a sound when it initially turns on, but shouldnt keep making it. A mate had an almost new HKS EVC5 and the guy he bought it off didnt have the in line filters installed and had a lot of blow by oil inside.. Im pretty sure he had similar sounds too you and after a quick clean it stopped the sounds.

Re manual, i downloaded a manual from the net when I had my profec a (needed it to set it up properly). Do a search on google or try trust.com - there is a pdf manual around somewhere!

Noise is normal :) It even says it in the manual, so dont't worry about it

I have emailed you the instructions as well, make sure its set up properly and it should be fine

NOTE - with the learn procedure 'P1', keep doing full boost runs in 3rd and 2nd gears, do as many as possible, as it will make the boost curve more stable, then P2 mode, use 3rd gear

I have found this works the best

Chris

Seriously guys, really apprecaite the info! I was a bit confused with the P1 and P2 learning modes and i didnt spend much time in them (without hte manual, i didnt know!) Boost holds decently atm, but its a bit jumpy up top. I'll think i'll do another setup and see if it will hold boost better.

One last question, regarding the learning mode, what boost level does is it supposed to reach during setup? Like stock wasteage levels? or something preset on the unit?

You get into learn mode by holding power and over take boost down for about 6 seconds or so, it will then come up with -

P1 - learns the stock boost curve, do as many runs as possible, 2nd, 3rd and even 4th if you have a nice big long non-cop patrolled road :) Do as many as you can

Press the power button, it will then go into P2 mode. Press the power button again when you are ready to go, and it will start.

This mode is measures pressure drop between turbo and inlet, one full boost (try to start from around 2500rpm until rev-cut) is alll that is needed, if it is sucessful, it will come up with a digital boost gauge, if it doesn't P2 will still be displayed. Keep doing it until it works :D

Good luck

P.S - dAVE, I think I have emailed the manual to you before as well??

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
