I know this isn't the right forum for technical discussion, but I thought I'd mention this for chat's sake. So I'm thinking of modding up the Line a bit. Right now it's a fairly stock R33 GTS - non-turbo mostly because of insurance (I realise that will change)

And God I love it.

I've fitted a pod filter already and it has 16" 225s on all corners. Now I'm thinking about the following mods. I haven't done anything yet, other than a bit of reading on these forums.

- supercharger

- FMIC

- 17" rims 235/255

- maybe some exhaust work but not sure yet

Not sure if I'd get it done in Canberra - my girlfriend is calling up some friends in Sydney, so might get it done down there. Comments welcome. :spank:

Sounds good, but with the super charger your gunna have the same insurance problems as you would with a GTS-t...

If your really keen to keep the GTS, then I would get the exhaust first, then mags and good tyres, and get the suspension looked at (good shocks/springs and a good alignment).

Then if you really want to keep going, get the super charger and FMIC.

Buuuuttttt, and your gunna hear this a lot, the bang for buck won't be as much compared to modding up a GTS-t....

yeah, i know, i just really love my GTS. I mean, it'd be heaps cheaper to sell the GTS and buy a 32T or even a 32GTR but I really have an attachment to my R33.

Re the supercharger, it isn't really a case of wanting to be different, it'd just be easier than lowering in an RB25det, from what I've read. Also more bang at low end (which is where I spend most of my time).

What would you recommend I have done to the exhuast? It's stock as is. :)

why not drop in a GTR engine or running gear? someone is selling their whole R33 GTR driveline for 10K!!! (have you thought about the cost of putting a blower on your car!!?!?! - not cheap to do it properly...).

I can't help but think if it's a powerful sports car you want, then buy one - don't try to 'build' one....

I think it is very honorable that you are so commited to your car, but keep in mind the simple investment vs return formula. At the end of the day, have you spent more that you would have, had you sold your current car and bought a nice turbo model?

I have learnt that the hard way before, but of course it is entirely your choice. The only thing you might want to check is engineering requirements and insurance problems.

he could do the cams and stuff, but logical choice would be the complete exhaust system, and extractors...

You're going to need a new zorst system if you do bigger engine mods (s/c etc)

Partitioned CAI? U said u've already done a pod.

Even though i don't have a skyline, my order of mods starts with zorst, then cams, then port polish/4agze blah blah.

GO THE EXHAUST!

yea 2.5 i would agree with 3" is generally for turbo cars... i guess you gotta way it up from my little knowledge of engines smaller exhast within reason eg 2.25 - 2.5 will give better low down responce but up high a bigger exhast is better eg a 3" am i right ???

    • You Gregged a whole racetrack!?
    • Look for broken wire or bad connector at the motor. Might not be it, but is worth starting there, as it is easy.
    • Hi everyone, I’m having an issue with my R32 GT-R. Sometimes, when the car goes over a bump or experiences some vibration, the 4WD warning light comes on the dashboard. When I check the code from the control unit in the trunk, it shows Code 19 – ETS Motor. However, everything seems to be working fine — if I turn off the engine and restart the car, the light goes away and everything functions normally. Has anyone experienced this before? Where should I start troubleshooting this issue? Thanks in advance!
    • I'm back from the dyno - again! I went looking for someone who knew LS's and had a roller dyno, to see how it shaped up compared to everything else and confirm the powerband really is peaking where Mr Mamo says it should. TLDR: The dyno result I got this time definitely had the shape of how it feels on the road and finally 'makes sense'. Also we had a bit more time to play with timing on the dyno, it turns out the common practice in LS is to lower the timing around peak torque and restore it to max after. So given a car was on the dyno and mostly dialled in already, it was time for tweaking. Luis at APS is definitely knowledgable when it came to this and had overlays ready to go and was happy to share. If you map out your cylinder airmass you start seeing graphs that look a LOT like the engine's torque curve. The good thing also is if you map out your timing curve when you're avoiding knock... this curve very much looks like the inverse of the airmass curve. The result? Well it's another 10.7kw/14hp kw from where I drove it in at. Pretty much everywhere, too. As to how much this car actually makes in Hub Dyno numbers, American Dyno numbers, or Mainline dyno numbers, I say I don't know and it's gone up ~25kw since I started tinkering lol. It IS interesting how the shorter ratio gears I have aren't scaled right on this dyno - 6840RPM is 199KMH, not 175KMH. I have also seen other printouts here with cars with less mods at much higher "kmh" for their RPM due Commodores having 3.45's or longer (!) rear diff ratios maxing out 4th gear which is the 1:1 gear on the T56. Does this matter? No, not really. The real answer is go to the strip and see what it traps, but: I guess I should have gone last Sunday...
