Good Morning SAU Members:

Today I am here for a few reasons. Foremost, some time this year I am moving from Cairns to Perth and very specifically will be driving my R34 GT-t the whole way. If funds allow I will be picking up a R32 GT-R either when I reach Brisbane, or shortly before I leave Cairns.

This is an excellent opportunity for me to both meet many of you and also shoot many of your cars. The hope would be (on top of the documentary of the trip via GoPro) that I can make a nice album featuring all walks of Skylines over the entire country (exc. Tas, sorry). Obviously I’m hoping some of the high rollers will let me shoot some of the rarer Skylines, however everything in-between is just as important. I’d like everything from HR31’s, HNR32’s, ENR34’s, etc. Nothing is unwanted. Show level or drift pig.

My second wish is a longer shot. If anybody is willing to tag along for any part of the journey it would really complete the experience. Already I will have the ER34 and BNR32. For example, I hope to find at least a few Brisbane folks willing to do the BNE-SYD leg with me. (I’d probably consider marrying anybody who did the entire trip from BNE-ADE (cars are on trains from CNS-BNE/ADE-PER.).).

Since I don’t have a date set in stone I won’t try to coordinate any meetings just yet. However I would like to drum up some interest and gauge a feel for how many people would be willing to partake. Participation levels from simply letting me take a photo of your car all the way to packing up the car after the photo shoot and heading for W.A.

What I need: People looking to have some fun with their Skylines.

What I don’t need: People telling me an ER34 isn’t built for traversing Australia.

Thanks for your time guys. I hope to see you on the road!

Kindly,

Joshua Hellyer.

(Note: Only on the QLD forum for now. No point disturbing the other states until we get closer to departing QLD.)

Edit: Fixed format.

I've been planning to go see my family in Sydney in the next month or so. Once you got the firm dates would be really good to know, if all good I'll jump in my skyline with the missus and join the "convoy" from Brissy to Sydney and then I can catch up with family down there. More fun driving then flying :)

Nullabor is pretty special, lots of long straight road but still an amazing part of Aus.

Good road surface, speed is only 110 and policed would you believe it.

Don't travel early morning or evening due to the roos.

If you must travel at these times, sit back behing a semi and let him clear the path. Watch out for road kill flying off his wheels.

UHF is a must, just a hand held so you can chat with the truckies.

Fuel will be expensive and of suspect quality so don't go heavy with the foot.

    • Fair enough, I am in no way a tire expert so I'm not familiar with all the terms and conditions. I'll definitely note down the AD09 to potentially try in the future. Rain is not too big of a concern for now as I will probably only drive in the rain when I have to. And considering I still lack experience driving the GTR I'd more than likely take it easy too. I have coilovers in the car but as I barely got to drive so far I never bothered to even check if they are adjustable haha. The suspension is almost entirely old and worn as well so I suppose when I eventually fix that in the future that would make a huge difference.
    • There's not a great deal to report here .... except ...... FOR .... LSD!!!  I bought a Quaife LSD from the UK and shipped it here .... Wish I'd just bought locally cause the shipping and duty was $700! But there were so many diffs used in the E90s I just wanted to be absolutely certain I was getting the right one so I spoke with a supplier in the UK who builds race cars and they have heaps of experience with the E90s.  I pulled the diff out which was seriously awesome - I've never done anything like that before, I must have watched 1000 videos on YT about it as well as consulting the Bentley manual. It was super easy in the end. The diff was delivered to the awesome folks at Hornsby Diffs and will be back in a few weeks. I also replaced the diff bushings with some Nolathane ones.  Really looking forward to getting it back and getting back to the track or even the skidpan.
    • yeah... the 13kg/mm springs weren't always in there, I had 10kg/mm but doing a few SMSP commanded heavier front springs. It's so good now going into T1 and T2, just need more seat time and real tyres.
    • Yes, well. Mine are less than half that. ARBs are not set to "dumb" either.
    • I would hope. But, we all know even the best companies have an issue sporadically.
