Hi All

Time to upgrade my Bike.

i am looking at either a GSXR or an R1

i have been riding a RS250 and they are a ball of fun but the 2 stroke bike is getting to jumping for me.

the 04 R1 is opne of the best bikes i have ever riden, but i am looking at 2 ex demo 03 Bikes,

now both bike ride very nice but 1 is 1000cc and the other is a 750cc.

what do you guys think of these bikes??

i am tendning towards the R1 but i still want to get the right bike and i have only heard good things of the gsxr`s...

Thanks guys

Depends alot on what you want to use it for. If, like 90% of R1 owners, you want to do laps around shopping malls and McDonalds carparks then get the R1. People know it's the best.

If you actually want to use the bike then you'll have to make the decision yourself. What are you planning to do? Commute? Track days?

i work for ford(i know poor me) but i sell GT`S AND GT-P so i guess it is o.k.

so i have an R33 and a work car, so i would only be using this for fun, i used my RS250 for fun and track and i guess this will be the same. i would only ride it 1 time a week if that.

i like the look of the 2003 R1 but i don`t want to be a follower,

i think in the end i will go the GSXR,

well as you can see i don`t know what i am going to go...

only going to ride it once a week? may i ride it on the 6 free days?

but seriously, take both for a good ride - read : borrow for the day then make up your mind as to which will suit your needs

both bikes = licence taker within seconds - just comes down to taste

New GSXR750 if you're going to do track days. It's not as heavy as a 1000cc bike, the chassis is the same as the GSXR600 and is only 1kg heavier than the 600. Oh, and on paper it can clock 299km/h. But that's only cause the speedo stops there. :D

I've ridden the 2000 gsxr 750 and the 2002 gsxr 1000.

750 is track god

1000 is street beast and track weapon.

1000 against r1, have completely different feel.

Don't discount a 2nd 2004 1000 fireblade or even zx10 bothare weapons.

Depends on what you feel more comfortable with doing the riding your intending to do.

There aint a bad bike out there some just better then others.

Went to Wakefeild today too, r1 on poll then two fireblades then the suzi.

i saw a bunch of r1 owners maybe 10-12 down at magic mountain carpark hanging out in kappa trackies and singlets. oh they were all blue....... very sad. still like r1's and lots of my mates ride em but they seen becoming a parked, stand next to posers bike.

i ride every chance i get and are also in the market 4 a new bike. zx10 real wild animal very fun/challenging to ride always trying to lift front, more than anything else ive ever ridden (inc gsxr100) sooo much grunt. i am waiting for the cbr before i make a decision, spoke to a few guys who bought some of the race release bikes for phillip island a while back and they said it was very forgiving and easy to ride fast, whereas the zx10 felt like it was quicker, it pulled relatively the same times, less fatiguing on long rides maybe? have to wait and see..

to make things harder 04 gsxr-1000, free yoshi pipe and goodrige staino lines etc all for 16.5k??? decision is too hard.

    • @GTSBoy Ok so that was the shops problem...they showed R33 rotors on R34 page and i did not know 296 do not fit(and are for R33) Yes i bought "kit" with rotors and pads. Pads are ok(i have GTT calipers front and rear). They have some 324mm but no 310mm. So i dont know if they would fit. I have 17inch LMGT4s So another question. Can i fit those in the rear or they are just "too" big for that?
    • I started removing the tank a while back with the intent to give it a proper clean. Got to a bolt that I couldn't undo completely due to a diff being in the way, so just said f**k it and siphoned the gluggy old fuel out and called it a day. Looking it the tank it looks less corroded than the one in the pics for that billet hanger from Frenchy's anyway. Isn't it the fuel filters job to worry about this stuff? I scraped off most the crusty shit of the hanger but will give it another go before reinstall coz maybe the fuel and return pipes are also full of gunk
    • Pretty sure it is a common fault. I believe this is the only part you need, but don't quote me as I don't have a V36.  I also believe it is a bit of a pain to change and the device needs to be encoded to the car once it is replaced, so may need someone with the right tools. • Pads for R32 GTS-t, R32 GT-R non V-Spec (Sumitomo), R33 GTS-t and R34 GT-t are all interchangeable. R34 GT uses a 2x piston caliper, hence it didn't fit.
    • Checked with amayama and nope, the full S2 manual set is not available anymore. Unsurprising, but still disappointing as the ? on availability gave a glimmer of hope.
