Y31 Cima

I have a y31 Cima Gloria & in the boot on the drivers side is an on/off switch that says "CARD SYSTEM"

I would like to know what it's for???

maybe for the automated toll system the car used when it was in japan (?)

The Y31 Cima had the option of a card system for either ignition or door access. I cant recall exactly which but it was a precursor to the modern systems that use a chip in the key/key-fob.

Anyone know if you can still start the car without the card?
