Hey all,

I have no friggin clue where was best to ask this question, so figured I would just post it here seeing as it is for cosmetic purposes.

While I was installing my HKS fuel rail, I did up the blanking plug for the centre return line with a 6mm allen key. I was only intending to have it in there to stop anything getting in while I was working on the car, but of course I promptly forgot about it. When I then primed the fuel rail to check for leaks, this plug is now leaking. Only a tiny bit but I have this thing about fire in my engine bay, I'm sure you understand.

The issue is, when I went to take the plug out to put some Loctite thread sealant on it (as I should have just done when I put it in, don't know why I didn't), I discovered that the damn thing isn't actually a 6mm allen key, and I've now rounded it. So I need to get a new one. But, I'm not 100% sure on the sizes. Does anyone know if it is a 6.5 or 7mm allen key that I need? AND, I'm assuming that it is a -6 AN thread, same as the other fittings that came with the rail? So a -6 AN Speedflow plug would be perfect?

Thanks for any help,

Martin.

that plug f**king sucks man, I had the same problem..but i had used a thread seleant as well so it took a while to actually leak..

first it took me 2 weeks to track down the bung because it is a -6 size fitting but mine had a really fine thread on it that I couldnt find anywhere..

when i finally got one one the new problem is if i did it up too tight the o-ring would squish out, but if i didnt tighten it enough it wouldnt seal properly and I was advised not to use loctite as its not fuel resistant or something..i did get some other threadlocker that is but i still didnt trust it.

Anyway long story short, I got sick of it and just welded the f**king thing in there...doesn't look pretty but problem solved...

check the thread though, chances are its not a regular -6 thread..got a pic..

This doesn't inspire me with confidence :/

If it's not -6 thread then it's most likely not AN, would be something similar. Why HKS have made this plug so obscure seems strange to me, I'm struggling to find the 6.5mm allen key as well. I don't want to weld it up or do anything permanent because I do plan on running twin-entry in the future. Hadn't heard about Loctite thread sealant not being fuel resistant either, that could be a problem too.

why is this in cosmetic...??

I didn't know where else to put it!? Lol. I figured it's not really a performance question, and it's not really a maintenance question... It's not really a cosmetic question either, but I bought the rail for cosmetic purposes so I thought I'd continue with that :P

no its norhing similar, its some obscure metric thread..The reason the thread is ver fine is because it has to bite into a fairly thin piece of rail..if it was a regular thread it wouldn't have enough holding to bite solidly..mine wsnt a HKS it wad a PFE rail, they could be different..if you show me a pic I can get you a bung if it's the same. Or any pipe place like Enzed and some Auto stores that stocks PFE (proflow) fittings will be able to get it, they will most probably have to order it in though..

    • Its a 2002 vr-x four VQ25DET, silver. Coil overs, lowered, polished alloys and sport exhaust. Bit of a project, was sitting in a shed for a while but runs and drives great.
    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
