Hi guys,

Anyone know a good place in Melbourne to address air bag and cruise control issues.

I've had problems for about 2yrs. I know how to reset the air bag light but it always comes back. Before it used to be a few months, now it's probably gone for 1/2 a day.

Regarding the cruise control, if I turn it on, it beeps and the warning light comes on straight away (plus the japanese warning message on the screen). Can't set speed or anything.

I've checked the pedals, read as much about it on G35 and V35 forums, but I'm stuck so I wanna go somewhere that knows this car.

Called Nissan Frankston service dept and they never heard of the car! $130 per hour to diagnose the fault.

Not sure I could trust them to find the issue.

Cheers

One of their mechanics has an M35 Stagea so they should be fine to work on them. Their consult III will give you the codes required to find the faults.

thanks Scotty...do you mean at Frankston they've got someone who knows them? May have just been the guy I got on the phone.

Besides Nissan Frankston, do you know any other places I could go or would you generally recommend a Nissan service dept.

In regards to the airbag light problem, if these are anything like the Toyota Hiluxes then it's just a small spring behind the dash that needs replacing it's a $20 job and a little bit fiddly if you don't know what you're doing. I just know that it's a common problem with Hiluxes so i'm not really sure if that's helped..

The mechanic you spoke to on the phone might not want to work on the car, you will get that a lot with these vehicles lol.

Without reading the code you could chase that light for weeks. Drop down to a Nissan dealer and get them to read the code, then take it from there. Most parts will be available S/H, I have most of them here.

  • 2 weeks later...

Took it to Nissan, and for a couple of hundred bucks I was told my cruise control laser sensor was reporting a fault - $2000 to replace and fit.

Also told my L) air bag module was faulty - $1950 to replace and fit.

So for almost $4000 I don't think it's worth it.

Any suggestions guys?

Scotty, you mentioned some parts could be obtained S/H? Where would you suggest I start?

The parts quoted were: K8515AL500 (air bag module) and 28437AL5100 (cruise sensor). Thanks

Left airbag module, so the passenger side dash? I have one here but I can't ship it. Where are you located?

Personally I would ditch the cruise and buy an aftermarket one, they can be had for as little as $500. Mine works seamlessly and can be user adjusted, all you lose is the radar part.

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
    • If it (the code) wasn't still current, it should have gone away by itself by now. No, nothing it 10/10. But it is quite likely. Everything else to do with the ignition could still be responsible (which is wires and connectors). The car is an old piece of shit now, so all the wires and connectors are also old pieces of shit.
