I'll be there too Joe.

Lucky I reserved one extra place then :domokun:

dad pays the bills plus one will be there

You are number 24."John +1" as requested

Firstly I would like to apologize for not getting there this morning. I simply didn't read the details correctly and assumed it was tomorrow morning. This does suck. Both myself and Daniel were looking forward to going.

Now that I have apologized I do have a couple of questions/complaints.

Firstly, when the first event was cancelled why wasn't a more direct approach to advising people used? Like a private message. Not everyone lives on the forum but most people will check their emails where they would see a private message notification. This would have made things easier for me and I am sure others.

Secondly, whilst this is a complaint of sorts it is more a question to understand the reasoning. Why do we have to do Happy Laps at QR to qualify for Happy Laps at lakeside? Is this an SAU rule? My biggest beef with this is I am 10mins from lakeside and 2hrs from QR and both Daniel (.R33.)and I have done happy laps at Lakeside, just not with SAU. Just wanting to understand the logic. I think it's unreasonable to expect people to travel 2hrs (despite me being willing too) to qualify to drive at a track 10mins away.

On that note, can Daniel and I do happy laps at Lakeside even though we haven't done one at QR and have actually done them at Lakeside, just not with SAU?

Cheers.

The reason for making people do atleast one happy laps at QR, is because we had an incident at one of the Lakeside meets, where a novice had an accident. So the SAUqld club are making sure you get a handle of your car at a forgiving track before you are allowed on an unforgiving track.

I am sure that if you can prove you have done a track day or happy laps before you can PM one of the club execs ie Joe_89, Toddles or Fineline and they would allow you to come to the next Lakeside meet.

Chris

Would agree with you on the lakeside track Richard. I'm from the northside as well and away for 3 weeks out of the month for work. Me and a few mates are looking at booking lakeside for 1 day over the xmas new year period so if your interested in coming out for a few laps and a bbq shoot me a pm.

Cheers Adam

I have just replied to Daniels message he sent me

As a forum, it is common practice to check an events thread atleast the day before the event, there are plenty of reasons outside of our control that would cause an event not to go ahead.

This is not the only place that the events are advertised and it isnt a simple/quick task to message all the attendees individually, nobody has had an issue with the thread cancelation notice before.

As gts25t4door said, The rules are in place to protect the safety of both our members, and our reputation with the raceway.

The new rules were implimented after the worst happened with a member writting their car off on the track. - This is a happylaps event and nobody should be ABLE to lose control under the guidelines of the expected behavior.

As such, QR is used as a probation for members safety, to pick out the people who do not know how to behave/need more practice on a track because it is a far safer track with run-off areas. Lakeside is not.

However, we are happy to accept the word of our members that have been on lakeside before, and they are welcome to attend our happylaps sessions there, as long as all other rules are adhered to

    • I hadn't thought about the variable power steering assist. Presumably, it will always be the same level of assist as you get in an S14. The R32/3/4 are either helliishly heavy (at low speeds) if the solenoid is not powered at all, or hellishly too light (at high speed) if it is powered all the time. I presume that it is PWM controlled on those cars. I hadn't thought about the S cars not having variable assist. ugh. What crappy plebby cars they must be!
    • Hmm yeah that is a good point. It looks like it'll just bolt in with no real issue besides maybe the bushings being different. My other concern was that 2 pin plug that I assume is used in some way to control the rack solenoid depending on the speed signal from the ecu. The DMAX rack doesn't even have that plug though so, don't think it'll matter. Might just order the rack and see how it goes. Will update this when I figure something out
    • I'd say it's a fair bet that the feed and return fluid lines will be in different enough spots that you would need to come up with a way to cut the originals short and adapt with new hard line adaption or braided teflon hoses or somesuch. But really, you have the car, you have the photos of the DMAX rack - you should be able to go out there and see for yourself whether they're in the same or different spots.
    • I've been doing some looking around and honestly was just considering throwing a new rack at it. I saw that the dmax silvia rack bolts up into the 33 with the silvia bushings but not sure if the high pressure lines will sit in the correct spot. I believe other version of the 33 rack are the same/similar to the racks that can be opened up without as much fuss so I assume the dmax rack would fit but any ideas?
    • I've never played with one, but I would expect that you are correct. That slot looks like it is intended to be used to unscrew the end, and the flats on the body would be better than grabbing it around the round bit with a pipe wrench. So, yeah, probably unscrews. You'll probably have to make a tool to drive in that slot.
