anyone know any companys in melb who can build me a strong RB20 5spd??

the rebuild costs on rb 20 boxes are 1500 or so I have heard so an rb25 box would be a better optio or buy a guarateed s/hand one

I agree with Meg (AGAIN !) an RB25DET gearbox is the go.

is there anyway of checking the condition of the 25 box prior to purchase?

i got some quotes for rebuilding the 20 box stronger for about 1400, using gears out of some nissan van or something. they couldnt guarentee it would last with decent power (300+rwhp) so i didnt bother

ok, so what would you do if changing to an RB25 box also meant you had to cut the trans tunnel out an weld in something larger......

and put in an rb 20 box

Does anyone know why a rebuild costs so much?What do they replace just bearings? is the any gaskets or bushes?If a RB20det box whines is it farked eg is the gearset farked coz of it or is it just the bearings/input bearing that goes.

generally its the bearing but they go for ages even when they are noisy.

re the price pull a gear box apart and try and put it back together you will see why it costs alot

why would you need to cut and weld the trans tunnel in a VL to fit an RB25 box?

to answer a quick question will a rb25 gearbox make better 1/4 mile times than a rb20, eg gear ratio difference???
