you can get red EL as well just a matter of asking for it I guess, might cost a lil more... if you just wanted red dials, change the lights in your cluster to red LEDs with resistors... should look stock but instead of white/yellowish you'll have bright red

the way EL works is a layer of luminescant is made to vibrate at a certain frequency, change the current and you'll change the frequency. Blue/Green is the easiest to make, but if you managed to get the luminescant to vibrate at the lower (or was it higher) frequency then it'll give out a red light. Of course the life of a Red EL is shorter than a blue one.

if you get a resistor with an LED you should be able to trick it up to the same voltage as a globe and wiggle it into the socket - bright LEDs will have that nice rice effect.

if you just want the basic EL kit.. www.modyourcar.com.au and a few places like that have them.. hideously overpriced ($250 or so) for what they are - but hey that is rice for you.

I have a spare cluster I have been playing with, but I still for the life of me can't work out how to get the needles off! I remember on my r31 cluster its very similar, and you just kind of pop them off.. but on the r32 cluster there seems a lot of resistance and I feel that if i pop the needle off its going to rip the spring or whatever is behind it out too ??

Is there a special trick to it? or do you just have to use a bit of careful force.

    • I know -_- Oddly enough I went to a car show this weekend and not a single person made any mention of Nitrous... I did have to argue with a know it all that was convinced I had an RB26 head with HKS V-Cam as opposed to a regular VCT RB25 head, but what do I know. I think my HKS oil cap was throwing him off.
    • That seems like a lot more work than just using a second jack under a front tow hook to raise it enough to get another jack under it.
    • They're wonderful when only used to lift your car up an inch so a real jack fits under your front lip. Besides that, I've only ever used them on the side of the road.  We call them widow makers here.  Unfortunately, like I mentioned in another post, ramps are not an option for me due to generally working on my car once my kids are asleep. Cold starts, 4" exhaust and sleep rarely go well together. I honestly find using ramps a hell of a lot more work than what I'm currently doing anyways.
    • Yeah, it's getting like that, my daughter is coming over on Thursday to help me remove the bonnet so I can install the Carbuilders underbonnet stuff,  I might get her to give me a hand and remove the hardtop, maybe, because on really hot days the detachable hardtop helps the aircon keep the interior cool, the heat just punches straight through to rag top I also don't have enough hair for the "wind in the hair" experience, so there is that....LOL
