cup holder for guages

I bought a cup holder thing for the apexi boost guage that is already installed on my car.

Tonight I tried to fit the cup holder but I have got stuck - there is a thick wire that is attached to the boost guage and it looks like it isn't meant to come off (i need to thread this wire through the cup). Does this mean I have to un-hook the cable in the engine, thread the wire through the cup, then re-tread the wire into the engine bay again?

In the dark I think I folowed this wire to a transparent orange object that looks like a tiny UFO and then continues.

Any help please?

you should be able to unscrew it from the gauge. All the ones I have seen are like this.

I already tried unscrewing it dave. The nut left the thread and started taping a new thread in the plastic covering of this wire - so i unsrewed it as far as it would go.

Any other suggestions before I disconnect it from within the engine (which will be a pain).

Will disconnecting the boost guage inside the engine bay afftect the boost guages readings in the future?

ah.,. well that sucks.

I guess what your doing is your best bet then. Dont forget if it lights up or anything it will have wires coming from it too.
